Posted on September 16th, 2011 by Zach Nicodemous

With Infinite Space releasing later this year and the new movie-based multi-platform game hitting the shelves in 2012, it is starting to look as though the world of Star Trek Gaming is once again ramping up.

Another area where new Star Trek Games are hitting the shelves is in the world of board games.   There have already been a couple of new entries this year with move on the way, so here is a run down of what you can spend some of your well earned money on:

Fleet Captains

Warp into action with WizKids/NECA’s latest installment to the Star Trek franchise! Designed by Mike Elliott and Ethan Pasternack, this stand alone strategic space exploration/ship-to-ship combat game will primarily focus on the eclectic Star Trek ships as they explore space and battle their opponents.

Featuring 24 precisely crafted 3D HeroClix starships and over 300 cards, this game is a must-have for any Star Trek fan! Star Trek: Fleet Captains is a game for 2-4 players as they assume the roles of Federation or Klingon commanders and compete for sector supremacy!

Its available to buy now – you can find out more about the game and how to buy it at its website: http://wizkidsgames.com/startrek/star-trek-fleet-captains/

Star Trek: Expeditions

Designed by award winning game designer Reiner Knizia, Star Trek Expeditions is a cooperative mission game for 1-4 players.

You take on the roles of Kirk, Spock, McCoy and Uhura responding to an invitation from the Nibian government to open discussions about the planet joining the United Federation of Planets. However, now that the Enterprise has arrived, you find the President of Nibia less happy to see you than the invitation suggested, and Mr. Spock has detected evidence that another starship may have recently been in orbit.

Lead your away teams made up of crew and resources from the Enterprise to solve the major story arcs plus key side missions before the Klingon Fleet arrives or the lone cloaked Klingon Battle cruiser in orbit destroys the Enterprise and her crew. Three difficulty levels, random side missions, player strategies and a unique branching mission tree ensure every game will be a unique memorable experience.

ST: Infinite Space coming this Fall!

Posted on September 15th, 2011 by Zach Nicodemous

Those of you that have had your head in the sand may not know about the Free-to-play browser based MMORPG being released later this year from GameForge.

Originally announced late last year, Infinite Space is a groundbreaking 3D browser game based in the Deep Space Nine era.   The game was originally slated for a summer release, however the game was recently pushed back to a fall release following feedback the developers recieved on alpha-versions of the game they took to conventions earlier this year.   The extra time is allowing the developers to act on this feedback which should result in a much better game for us all at release.

Hailing Frequency and its partners at Trek Radio got several chances to play an alpha build of the game at FedCon in Dusseldorf, Germany earlier this year and our impressions of the game were that its shaping up to be a very interesting addition to the Star Trek Gaming franchise.   In fact, you can view a gameplay video we took (in full HD!) by clicking here! You can also hear an exclusive 40 minute interview (right click and save-target-as) which we aired over at Trek Radio on May 21st this year. To date, it is one of the most information-packed sources relating to the game.

Given that we are now officially in fall/autumn, we expect an official release date for the game to be announced soon – in order to meet the fall deadline, the release must occur prior to December 1st, so unless another delay to the release-date is on the way, we should all have a new Star Trek game to play within a couple of months!

At E3 earlier this year, the Okudas, who are acting as full consultants on the game, posted a two part Q&A related to the game, you can view the first part at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CoYCl6cpJk and the second part at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rm5GCvxNJCA

And when you have digested all of that, you can pre-register your account/character name for Infinite Space and recieve an exclusive bonus for doing so by visiting this new page on the Infinite Space website: http://en.landing.startrek-is.com/

You should also remember to check out their MEDIA PAGE which is updated every week with a new in-game 3D model which you can view in its full glory via the games Unity3D engine plugin.

Star Trek XI based game coming for XB360, PS3 and PC in 2012!

Posted on September 14th, 2011 by Zach Nicodemous

The staff here at Hailing Frequency would first like to apolagise for the gap in Star Trek Gaming coverage over the past few months.   There has been alot of Star Trek Gaming news over the past several months and we aim to get you all caught up over the coming days!

Digital Extremes, the ground-breaking games development company behind hit games such as Unreal Tournament, Homefront, Bioshock and The Darkness, signed a deal earlier this year with Paramount Digital to develop a high-budget, triple-A game based on the 2009 JJ Abrams Star Trek Movie.

With an original story and unprecedented co-op experience, the game casts players as Kirk and Spock for the first time ever.

The game, which continues the adventure that director and producer J.J. Abrams envisioned with Star Trek (2009), boasts a stand alone story filled with action-packed combat as Kirk and Spock must work together to stop a legendary enemy race bent on conquering the galaxy.

“Star Trek challenges the boundaries of co-op gameplay with a galactic adventure that gamers and fans have never experienced,” said Tom Lesinski, President of Paramount Digital Entertainment. “Working closely with the Star Trek filmmaking team throughout development, the game is sure to deliver AAA production values, a wide variety of gameplay and all the action you would expect from the hit franchise. This will be the definitive Star Trek gaming experience.”

Star Trek features an original story by BAFTA award winner and God of War writer, Marianne Krawczyk, in collaboration with the writer/producers of the new Star Trek films, Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman.

Digital Extremes are currently in lockdown mode with regard to public relations, marketing and interview requests related to this new Star Trek Game, however Hailing Frequency and Trek Radio are both in contact with the game developers and have been promised an exclusive interview after christmas, possibly in January 2012 – so keep an eye on Hailing Frequency or Trek Radio for all of the latest news related to this exciting new game!
