Goddard Class Science Vessel
« on: 08 October 2008 05:00 AM »
Starship Name: USS Goddard  NX-97950
Starship Class: Goddard  (offshoot of the Oberth Class)
Departmental Class: Research Vessel

Length: 295 m
Beam: 103 m
Height: 51 m

Warp Cruise: 7
Warp Max: 9.9 (24 hrs)
Warp Emerg.: 9.947 (8 hrs)
Sublight Max: 0.699 c (or Warp 0.699)

Decks: 10
Crew Compliment: 115
Emergency Capacity: 460

Armaments: 6 Type XI Phaser Arrays, 4 Quantum Tubes (2 aft mounted on saucer)
Defensives: Advanced Medium Shield Generator, Ablative Hull Armor, Detachable Science Pods, 1 Kittyhawk fighter.

Hull Exp.: ~130 yrs
Resupply: 3 yrs
Refit: 9 yrs

Alignment & Era: Pre St:O; Commissioned December 31, 2393

Mission profile: The sophisticated sensor equipment that the Goddard carries is enough to rival that of a large space station. Long range sensors penetrate deep into hostile territory to monitor any signs of foul play, as well as to track fleet movements and possible signs of Borg activity. The Goddard class, named after the rocketry pioneer Robert Goddard, is an extremely light vessel and should not, if possible, be introduced into a combat situation. She is capable of panetary touchdown and marine submersion (can go underwater) comfortably up to 7 kilometers deep. In extreme circumstances, the Goddard can reach 9 kilometers by boosting the deflector and transferring all reserve power to the shield generators.

You never cease to amaze me Tethys!  :D

But...marine submersion? I cannot give you the lbs/sq.in. pressure on the hull at 7 kilometers depth, but I am not sure a standard shield generator ( with emergency power) would accomplish what your proposing here. But maybe it would!
Awesome concept though. I'd serve on her...

...just drop me off before any of those marine manoeuvres though!

I guess marine submersion makes this ship to a heavy type of tank. Also the shield gives her strength against heavy bombardement.

I can't help it she looks a lot like a Saber for a science ship.
