Alignment & Era: Pre-ST:O Era, Commissioned on Voyager's 10 anniversary upon return. Sometime in 2388.

Mission profile: Designed and developed as an official tribute to the crew of the Intrepid Class USS Voyager which was lost in the Delta Quadrant in 2371. 17 years after her maiden flight, on the 10th anniversary of her return, the Voyager Class was introduced and set into production, with the first of these ships bearing the NX registry until officially commissioned as NCC-74656-A. Despite all logic, the design was in fact proposed by 7 of 9, who assisted the ASDB during the 5 years Voyager was being constructed. As with the Intrepid Voyager, the Voyager Class implements variable geometry warp nacelles, and can sustain an unimaginable speed of warp 9.9945 for 3 hours. Quickly dubbed the quickest ship in the fleet, the Voyager was tried and tested, performing above and beyond Starfleet standards, thanks to the help of 7 of 9 and the crew of Voyager. Command of the USS Voyager was given to Captain Chakotay, but when he refused the position to take up his own personal interests (spirit quests etc.), command was then transferred to Tuvok, who was then promoted to Captain. First officer Commander Tom Paris. In addition, most of Voyager's original crew were posted on the new Voyager in retrospect to outstanding performance in the Delta Quadrant.

i understand that its supposed to be a tribute to Voyager...but it seems to me that this would just be considered a Refit to the Intrepid class more than a totally new class. It's chassis hasn't changed, and therefore the class remains the same.

yeah i guess ur right, other than the 5 extra decks squeezed in there ;) and being about 150 meters longer. i would have posted this as an Intrepid Class - Voyager Refit, however doing the math it just didnt add up. :)
