Activate The Juliano Beam!

I posted this a long, long time ago back on the startrek.com boards, but I thought I would resurrect the idea, because I just like it so much.

In Star Trek, we see numerous new discoveries and wonders named after characters. The Picard Maneuver, the plant named after Tuvok, the Daystrom Institue, Cochranes, etc. What if there was a way to make new discoveries or alterations to systems, and have them named after your character, or ship?

We could measure the Juliano Beam in Zach Units, and modulated by a Kinneas Reactor and housed in a K'Suan'Indra Matrix.

What do you guys think?

While on paper it sounds like a cool idea, especially with regard to much the fans would enjoy having there character immortalized in the game.

in practical use however it would be very difficult to implement for 1000s of players. on another note, what happens if the player leaves the game?

I like this idea TBH, although, i think it should only be used in outstanding cases of excellence. Having something named after you should be a rare honor, not a common occurance.

I have a feeling that while it will be nothing official, i think that youll find people making comments about popular people's actions on our server(s).

"Lol, remember that time we almost got mauled by that warbird? good thing we used zach's "oh 'censored' run away!" maneuver. Now i tend to drop my shields and put every bit of power into the warp engines every time i run away. Thanks for the new maneuver."

Actually, the "oh 'censored' run away" meneuver was invented by LrdNova......in Bridge Commander. He uses it all the time to run away from me cos i own him over and over and over. Even when he gets help :p

I'm not sure if this is very feasible. if there's multiple servers and i'm on server 1, it could be called the "Falin Retrograde manuver", but on server 2 it could be called the "Kaufman Retrograde manuever" bothb the same thing, but totally different names, thus confusing anyone who switched servers.

maybe a better choice could be to have people submit their "proposed" alterations to the devs, let them mull over the proposed changes and thenadd them t all servers on maintence downtime.

But this would have to be very limited, else they'd be flooded with "do this for me, ect". maybe it could be automatic, like the first time a Player, any player on ny server visits planet "X", that planet will later be called "Falin's Planet" or if a great battle took place there "Falin's Hold", or if a first contact took place, maybe a space beacon that says "on strdate XXXX.XX, The great Diplomat Falin arrived here and successfully negoatiated with the inhabitants of this planet"

but with potentially millions beig able to play the game, everyone will want something named after them, so ths whole idea may be more  of a pain than anything else, probably best to just let the Dev's decide if a particular thing deserves a players name, maybe even covertly.
