COMBAT: SUB SYSTEM TARGETING
« on: 26 June 2008 07:40 PM »
Have you appreciated sub-system targeting in star trek combat games like SFB, SFC, Bridge Commander, etc?

Would you like to see syb-system targeting in ST:O?

Sub-system targeting is a neat way to take down a foe without destroying them. A specific ship might have a certain weakspot that could be exploited by subsystem targeting. It would work well for missions where precision is required where lets say a passenger ship is taken over by insurgents and are attempting to escape intead of randomly firing on the ship which might needlessly hurt innocent civilians you target the ships warp engines and disable them or take out an ememy ships weapons and shields so you can capture it.

I'd  like to beam over and steal all the air scrubbers if possible. :muaha:

Going back to the tactics of knowing basic interior ship placements for 3D combat:  If the interiors are 3D w/PhysX(physics) and the weapons have physical properties you could (after getting through a shield facing and two hulls) hit several key systems in a straight line at once.

It could really mean planning which areas of a shield to try drop first before hitting interiors.

I think sub-system targeting is an absolute must for STO.  Precision strikes are at the core of our military today; how can we have a future where it's not?

I pretty much agree with Starfleet; Every class of vessel is different and as such has different strengths and weaknesses.  The weaknesses must be able to be exploited and the only way to really do that is to be able to target specific areas, i.e. sub-system targeting!

Like everyone said in this thread, it is definitely a must, but on top of that, it should be a point of tactical instrumentation where a smaller, underpowered vessel, may be able to obtain an advantage using a combination of sub-targeting and maneuvering.

Aboslutely to all of the above.

I feel as though this will add spice to the tactical job that's much needed.  Having multiple ways to deal with it, having different ships react differently, all of that sounds awesome.

indeed, sub system targeting would definatly add to the tactical side of the game, afterall how many times in a ST series do you hear the captain say, blow em up!

they normaly say "target thire ....."

It certianly happenned a lot on the shows so I see no reason why it would not be there and I agree totally with it.

Imagine the screaming of your opponent when all his modding work on his ship goes up in smoke and needs the resourse points ( or whatever) to replace it all  :muaha:
