Sub-system targeting is a neat way to take down a foe without destroying them. A specific ship might have a certain weakspot that could be exploited by subsystem targeting. It would work well for missions where precision is required where lets say a passenger ship is taken over by insurgents and are attempting to escape intead of randomly firing on the ship which might needlessly hurt innocent civilians you target the ships warp engines and disable them or take out an ememy ships weapons and shields so you can capture it.

I think sub-system targeting is an absolute must for STO.  Precision strikes are at the core of our military today; how can we have a future where it's not? 

I pretty much agree with Starfleet; Every class of vessel is different and as such has different strengths and weaknesses.  The weaknesses must be able to be exploited and the only way to really do that is to be able to target specific areas, i.e. sub-system targeting!

Like everyone said in this thread, it is definitely a must, but on top of that, it should be a point of tactical instrumentation where a smaller, underpowered vessel, may be able to obtain an advantage using a combination of sub-targeting and maneuvering.

indeed, sub system targeting would definatly add to the tactical side of the game, afterall how many times in a ST series do you hear the captain say, blow em up!

they normaly say "target thire ....."

 It certianly happenned a lot on the shows so I see no reason why it would not be there and I agree totally with it.


  Imagine the screaming of your opponent when all his modding work on his ship goes up in smoke and needs the resourse points ( or whatever) to replace it all  :muaha:
