Customizable Bridge Modules
« on: 20 March 2008 07:48 PM »
I was watching an old episode of TNG, 211-Contagion. The Bridge of the Enterprise's sister ship, the Yamato, is shown. Although only a small piece can be seen, it would suggest that the Yamato's bridge is drastically different from the Enterprise's. Here is my suggestion:

Allow customization of bridge modules on larger "hub ships". These ships are only purchasable by guilds anyway, and a customizable bridge module would be something extra a guild would have to design, and then set up. Each one would have to include certain stations, i.e. tactical, conn, ops, etc., but would allow guilds to put their own thumbprint on their own ship, giving them some personalization. Furthermore, it would allow guilds to make design descisions. Is your ship more of an exploration vessel or more of a tactical vessel?

This could be purely RP in nature, but if the devs go with it, could also open up new mission abilities. More science stations allows more science missions, more tactical allows more tactical missions. Therefore, a tactical officer will look for a tactical ship, and be more likely to group with gamers that match the play style they choose.

What do you guys think?

I like the idea of having customisable bridge layouts, but I would be very interested to see if this effected how and if we had the ability to interact with the consoles that we are moving around. COH and COH allowed you to build custom bases for your Guild but almost nothing in it was interactive Until later but it was still limited.

I think Bridge Modules would be an ideal way to customize your ships. Personally, i would like to see a customization system for bridges similar to the External Design system from Starship Creator.

Where you have like 100 of each component to choose from and purchase, to create a truly unique system. Imagine being able to customise the floor, the ceiling, the walls, the bridge layout, the consoles you have. It would be awesome.

...pink carpets, blood red curtens. the list will be endless over the yares, it wold be stupid if they didnt add more things as the game grows.

I'd just like to reiterate once again that i would love to have customizable bridge modules in Star Trek Online. This could be an awesome way to customize your ships - but how much meaning would it have?

If everyone has a ship, filled with NPCs - is there a point? If you have human manned ships - then ok - customization is good.

Thoughts?

Well I think it would be nice that when you have the option to upgrade or change vessels, you can select from a pre-determined pool of stats, labs, and bridge options when you are at a dry dock, you would also be able have spare space left to you, where you can have engineering construct customized labs or tactical briefing rooms.  The nice feature to this is that NPC construction teams would appear on your vessel to make the modifications and retrofit the vessel.  As they build, you can inspect.

I think it's a good idea, I always disliked the bridge layout of the galaxy class myself personallt, and would love to be able to change it more to my personal tastes, assuming I would get to a point where I might be able to command one that is....

Splendid idea really.  That way when you have guests aboard your ships, they will know that they are not aboard a standard model.

We have now learned of course that ship customization is going to be available, including interiors, so to what extent do you all think we are going to be able to customise our bridges?
