Well adding on to my earlier reply, I believe that ship interiors should be more of a simulator than anything else. I should be able to explore most parts of my vessel, not just critical areas, I also, should be able to enter almost every door. I would definitely like to be able to update science labs and add other rooms in my vessel. I think the degree I would like to see in the game would be ships in such detail that I can access a random system and either burn out something or enhance something slightly, such as messing around with an EPS Relay or rerouting a plasma conduit. Out of everything displayed in Star Trek, the ships are what is going to be important, and they need to be done right.
