i think somewhere inbetween the two would be best. i really hated that screen shot of the ship and that blob in the dia box. but thought the afore mentioned ground shot was ok.

i'm gonna buy a new high spec PC just for this game when it comes out anyway, so i would prob prefer next gen. ibut i do take the point of teh size of the community if that were to happen, it may drive people away.

thank god i'm not making the decisions. lol
Honestly, my Pagh is massive.

Again, i think that as long  as the gameplay is solid, immersive, and true to trek, graphics are secondary.

I would normally be the last person to say that because i love the high tech, but point and case is Crysis. AMAZING Engine behind Crysis, some of the most breathtaking graphics i have ever seen, but, i found the gameplay to be very 2D, and the story itself was quite weak. And on top of that the fact that the game was too damn short, you finish playing and you think to yourself, wow, the only point of that game was to see the engine in action, other than that it was 'censored'.

Everyone has their idea of the perfect trek game. For me, as long as i can go in, have a ship, have a crew (npc or real i dont care) and fly around and do missions and actually make a difference i am happy. It all comes down to storyline. A game is NOTHING without an ongoing and reactive storyline. So at this point, i would prefer they spent less time on the graphics, and more time thinking - "OK - What can we do to make sure that players arnt doing the same mission over and over, 10 times a day, in different parts of space. What can we do to create a wide enough variety of missions. How will we budget to keep people writing new missions all of the time. And importantly, How can player affect the story on a global scale.

I like the saying from Knight Rider - "One Man CAN Make a Difference". What will PLAYERs, singularly, be able to do to make a difference. If one player F's up a first contact? What effects will that have? If a captain goes rogue, again what will the implications be?!

........I need to make a seperate topic, but, i would prefer styalised graphics with an AMAZING story and quest system, to AMAZING graphics with a 'censored' story and repetative quest system.

I almost gave up on STO after those stylised screens. It had a very 'Lego Star Wars' feel, which is great in that game, but has no right in Star Trek so since the word Lego didn't appear in the title.

Proper graphics FTW!!

Stylised doesn't automatically mean cartoonish; it could mean sticking to a specific theme when creating the graphics. So it could be next gen and stylised. So this is more of a cartoon look vs. realistic graphics argument, and in that case I believe there can be compromises on both fronts. Realistic graphics should dominate but cartoonish graphics can be used from time to time for specific things like maybe a cartoon holonovel. But in the end realistic graphics should make up 95% of the game.

My issue with "realistic" graphics is that they can become outdated looking much quicker than a more "stylized/cartoonish" look, resulting in a game that ages badly. I'd rather have graphics that aren't as detailed that can hide the game's age better.

All to true, look at Dominion Wars and you see this truth readily. I really would prefer a game with  Star Trek the 25th Anniversary graphics and a great storyline and plot to a Legacy-esque game.

True games like Runescape do this and are still fun and in the end work on more people's computers.

A perfect example to my point regarding storyline / fun over graphics, is, Battlefield Heroes (check out www.battlefieldheroes.com)

It looks like a freakin awesome game, that perfectly captures the core of what battlefield is, even though it looks like something from Cartoon Network.

I would easily sacrifice graphics over playability, although i would love something at least as realistic as Eve Online, which i dont think would be  a great feat to accomplish.

We shall see what road its taken soon i suspect.

It has always been my understanding that the Art Department was different from the Content Design.  I don't really see how either can be compromised, I think, depending on delegation, and skill of the developers, we can realistically expect amazing visual effects and content.  There should be no compromise.

I think the sci-fi genre of mmo's should have realistic graphics. Especially with the Star Trek universe there are so many opportunities for the world builders to make pretty worlds that would AWESOME in next gen that would just be as cool in a styalised look
