ship "crew" question

first off, im new here, hi, im not really a big star trek fan but more of an "average joe" fan, and STO has really intruiged me, as i have been waiting for a game like this, and heres my question:

will the ships crew be npcs, or actual players, im fine with either, i'd just like to know if anybody knows for sure

Second I wish we had an answer for you but maybe we will know something soon, like on July 28th maybe!

While Perpetual were making the game, it was becoming quite clear that they were going down the NPC road, but now that the project has been rebooted - we really have no way to know.

Hey Welcome!!

Like the two previous posters mentioned it was going down the avenue of NPCs, but personally I believe that it would be cool for people to have the option to serve aboard a player ran ship.  I am pretty sure not everyone will want to be a captain.  But we will see...

engineering does sound like an intresting job, consiidering you have to look after the warp core, do maintinance, basically its a job that has a lot of responsibility

  Originally, from what I understood it was going to be a mix of both, with npc's filling in if players may not be available for a mission. Who knows what the new devs have in mind, but I doubt that it would be much different.

   I would be very surprised if you could start off as a ships captain the moment you sign into the game, while many games allow this rather easily, I hope this wont be the case with STO.  Trek is a very different universe from most and how a captain conducts himself ( especially in starfleet ) is an important reflection of that.
