ship yards and Ship designing.
« on: 09 April 2008 08:38 PM »
You know what would be a good idea for star trek online.  The ability design your own ship.  Or at least the opportunity to submit a new design.  And of course the opportunity to have your design declined or accepted too construction.  You should then have the opportunity to decide whether you would like to keep the ship for yourself or submit it to industry.  Of course there would be some standards laid down for designing ships so you don't end up with a ton of god mod ships.  And that of course the shipyards which would be controlled by the monitors, would decide whether your ship is good enough for construction.  I also think you should be able to design not only the exterior but also the interior of your ship.  You should be able to design everything about the ship from the look of the nacelles to the look of the inside of the bridge.  And be able to design ships from the size of a :shuttle: to the size of a :Constitution:.  That would be so cool.  I love designing starships I have a ton of designs that I can use.  If this is implemented in the game.  Count on me being a master ship designer.  Of course I think you should probably have to get too the point that you can design ships like say the highest level of a crafter.  Below I have a design of a ship I call the Seabeck.  Just to show you a teaser of what I can do.

Thanks for taking your time to read this. This is bin Hokens signing off  :blueshirt:

Wow, Bin. I really like that.  The ship is beautiful.

Yes I feel there needs to be some serious ship building tools as well.   From superstructures, picking and packing in modules...to individual system upgrades, changes.

Unfortunately I don't know if I'll be submitting that one to industry if i decide to submit it I'll probably keep it for myself.  But I do have a ton of other designs that you would probably like.

Modeling and structure modification.  Wasn't exactly my idea it works. what I was more talking about was the actual blueprints.  That might work but not everybody is really skilled with modeling tools. most people have a hard time getting the hang of it.  And I have also noticed that a lot of the games that have the modeling modification tools tenant two start looking kind of fake.  I mean second life for instance (that's a pretty extreme example).  Some places were really cool looking.  But then there were other areas that were rather bland.  And the models sitting around were rather basic.  What I'm talking about though is more like you designed it either on a paper or in a two dimensional form of some way.  And then they decide whether it's good looking enough to be turned into a three dimensional model.  That way they deal with all the hassle of the modeling tools and the technical stuff and all we have to do is designed it.  Maybe I'm just lazy. ^_^ ah wel, I guess your idea would work, for modifications.  Say like you already have a ship and you want it to look a little different you can take it to a shipyard and modified it a little or a lot all depends on your taste.

Nice Ship!

BTW, this is the same idea I posted on STOnet in conjunction with the idea of a fully playable SCE where interactive contstruction sites would be located throughout playable space and players could assist in the creation of a new Starbase or Space Station.

Lovely Ship Bin! You should post some of your designs in the Utopia Planetia Shipyards! :)

I'd love to see the ability in STO, to design and build ships. With the gaame being restarted at a n ew developer, i would say that now, more than ever, anything is possible with STO, so who knows.
