Spammers In STO
« on: 20 July 2008 09:58 AM »

I'm sure a lot of you have played various MMO's and encountered the plague that appears in everyone of them, The gold spammers. ( or in sto's case Latinum? ).  There is nothing more annoying than going to where players gather and have the gold spammers constantly spamming the general chat, especially if your trying to recruit others for missions.  I hope the STO Devs have a plan to deal with this very real problem.

I for one would advocate STO using trace programs to get these ppls IP's and banning the IP, perhaps using such to launch a lawsuit to discourage the behaviour.   Any idea's on how to handle this problem? :kill:

Well, if you indeed have prestige points as ur primary trade which u use to get better equipment from Starfleet, that wont be a problem because prestige points are personal and cannot be given.

And if as a secondary trade you have Federation Credits, which i thinkshould only be used for personal items that are often bought from federation worlds or can be converted into latinum. With latinum you also only buy personal items, and i think these personal items shouldnt be THAT important that there would be any point in 'gold spamming' them?

i would have said only 10 comments per minute, but in the end that would just be frustrating as hell and boring  :O

hmm, 15 per minute... theres no way to tell... wait, i have just had an idea, you know when people do things like this?

ens. momifarted://///
ens. momifarted://///
ens. momifarted://///
ens. momifarted://///

and so on, if you say more than 3 comments per uhh... 7 seconds? you'd get a short-term mute (say 1 minute?) but it would increase every time somebody makes the offence

not certain if it would work, i need somebody elses opinion

For general flood control u could use a if u do 3 comments in under8 seconds u get warning, again and ure muted for 2 mins.

And if you often send the exact same message to people you dont interact with alot, then you get a warning and then 1 day block from the person or something

I think it would actually be funny if they spam, you would have the ability to call security and NPCs would drag the spammer's avatar away while muting them for the rest of the session.

but if they did that, they would just log out then back in again, a loophole in the law, you could call it

I say if you "spam" in STO, you will automatically trigger the self destruct sequence on board your vessel, 15 second silent countdown, leading to a warp core breach that perma-deaths your avatar!

2nd Offense and afterwards they should become attackable.
