Yeah. It does 'seem' daunting.

The MMO does not have to follow 'every' weeks storyline. Just major story arcs.   The season cliff hangers are the best time to try initially.

As they get better and better at it I think it would become easier and easier to do so.

I predict the new movie will jump start a new series asap.
Especially if JJ Abrams wants the TV credits for the new Trek..and some MMO credits.   He seems pretty hip on games.

--
If the series MMO launches I predict it will make more money for Star Trek than Star Trek has ever seen.  They would have the money to use the actors, sets, etc to extend their presence in the MMO.

example: With enough money they could employ folks at the studio to BE 'Starfleet Command' almost 24/7.

We are talking about an entire industry around the series and STO.

Anyway...:)

This is actually a great tie in while the series is not in season, I can see a lot of enjoyment from the players getting on just to see what may have happend after the cliff hanger.

Then of course once the series picks back up you can have mention of sub plots that exist within STO appear on the Show.

with this concept in mind it will give the developers plenty of time to work up game content and such.

  • Howdy, folks!
I am sure you have all heard by now that the Sci-Fi channel and Trion World Network are going to launch a TV show/MMO by 2010 with an 'ongoing' series.

It plays out just as described here mostly.

Folks will be able to affect ongoing TV storyline through their participation.

Up till now there has been never been much of a way to let every fan of Star Trek be directly involved in the creation process. This is a great alternative to let them help shape and become part of canon.

Because of the immense headache and volatility of doing a TV show, and an MMO, obviously these tie ins would have to be loose and flexible.

Because of the nature of TV-watching by the mainstream audience, you can't take storylines from TV and put them on the game, otherwise, the TV group misses out.  If the Season cliffhanger creates a secondary problem that is dealt with in-game, that's fine, but if the next season opens, and everyone tunes in to see what happened, only to find out that... its already happened, well, that could be a problem.

Now bringing stuff from the MMO into the TV series is fine.  No one is left out, and the giddyness of seeing characters only before seen on the game, or having the latest crossover, raid or developing storyline mentioned in dialogue could be... well... it could be amazing...

It could be a WoW killer.
