Purpose: Originally designed to be the Ship of the Line for Starfleet during the Romulan War, after the war it was refit with a new warp drive system and impulse drive and was converted to a ship of exploration.

Max Warp Factor: 7.4 for 1 hour - (after refit) 7.9999 for 6 hours hour.

History:
The Archer Class ship is most famous for It's outstanding maneuverablilty, which is the reason most historians say that the Archer fleet (composed of 6 fresh-out-of-drydock Archer class ships) conquered the Romulan War Bird fleet (composed of 7 War Birds) in July of 2163, without losing one ship. This victory caused morale all through the Federation to lift, and all the admirals of Starfleet to send the Andorian Imperial Guard their thanks, as the shield technology they released to Starfleet had won them the battle. Only 2 ships of this class were ever lost, thanks to the prototype shields, durable hull plating, and all the photonic torpedo launchers.
The class was named because Admiral Archer, who was the Captain of Earth's first deep exploration starship, the NX-01 Enterprise, had plenty of battle experience from 2153, when he had entered the Delta Quadrant to fight the Xindi.

With the help of Captain Reed of the Starsearcher, the tactical systems were deemed 69% more effective than the previous weapons systems. Before Commander Charles Tucker of the NX-01 Enterprise died in an attempt to save the Enterprise in 2161, he left some very helpful notes about the Transporter, which was able to beam people from site-to-site, The Anti-Matter Injectors, which helped calculate out the efficiency of the next Engines, and the Protein Resequencer, which is now able to convert energy to matter. All of this technology was installed on the Archer Class.
