Ok, im experimenting a wee bit with shields and passive backgrounds.
Wat u think bout teh xpl0s1ionz?!1!!?!+1?+!
No, seriously, if anyone can help me out with these, or point out something, please do :)

WOW. Do you add all of the weapon and shield effects in using photoshop?
What settings do you render on?
How long does it take for one render to complete?

Very nice picture, One suggestions though, the Soverigen Phaser on the right looks a little strange with the beam not being continous

Nova, i tried making it look like a phaser that was already fired, but still there, u kno?
And Zach, to render the ships only takes a few seconds with my ultra fast pc :P,
I did everything in Photoshop except the placing of the ships

looks a bit to grainy, the shield interaction is to solid, might i suggest you head over to

and post it there for helpful ideas. lost'd of 3d and 2d artists there to help refine your skills.

This is a very good picture, but I would have to agree with Falin on how "Solid" the shield impact appears, I think it would look much more realistic if it appeared as though the impact from the phasers where being evenly distributed across the ships shielding as a whole.
