Indeed this is very disturbing. To be honest, the content in this game which surrounds the player him/her self should be VERY easy to create, or I should say, easy if they were to stick with the core of Star Trek. For the most part, the look and feel of the insides of the majority of the ships are very similar. Hell, alot of the ship designs already exist! Expand on those to create your own look and feel - that is all fine, but keep the core Star Trek content feel, and not only will your jobs be easier, but the community will certainly get behind you!
Interiors: Not having them at all is simply unacceptable to any real Trek fan IMO - "settling" for less would just be the first of many compromises which would lead to an inferior product and ultimately just another MMO money sink based around a popular license. I can understand having only two or three "rooms" in a smaller ship in between a runabout and defiant sized ship, but not doing them at all cuts the world immersion by at least 50% for me and I think others as well.
Interfacing and ship combat: Less like Legacy and more like EVE...Well I don't really know of a response to that that wouldn't be offensive, so I'll put it this way. Making this an external combat only system (like EVE/Legacy) also drops the immersion down serveral large steps. It takes the focus and pulls it out and away from the the individual, which is a slap in the face to any lover of trek. So now I'm just some ship, and if i squint so hard my eyeballs turn to mush, turn my resolution up to 4096x3072, and zoom alllll the way in I can see the tops of the heads of myself and the other "members" of my crew through the windows.
And Kinneas hit it on the head - right now with the apparent current plan of action, the game will be an one person show, very unpersonal, and excessively light on the immersion. So in doing that you'll gain the 1-2 month caffiene kids looking for another mmo fix and alienate the MILLION's of Trek fans world-wide - sure you'll have your millions in profit, just like the big bosses asked for, but at what cost?
(all was written with as much thought as could be managed at 1:30 in the morning, but was written with thought and my own opinions nevertheless - consider that before considering a 1 sentence bash reply)
