Now that Champions Online is out in the wild, publicity activites for Star Trek Online Continue to be on the rise.

We have had a bunch of new information released to us recently about how ships and crews will work in Star Trek Online.  You can now read about Ship Overviews, Bridge Officers, Crew, Station Mods, Ship Equipment and Tiers - it literally is a tonne of information and it gives us a real insight into how these aspects of the game are going to work.

Bridge Officers play a key role in how any ship performs. The player can assign his Officers to specific stations on a given ship. These stations can be Science, Tactical or Engineering stations, and ships of different type favor stations of a specific type, as well. Science ships focus their stations on Science, Escort ships on Tactical and Cruisers on Engineering. The more advanced the ship, the larger number of Bridge Officer stations there are (generally).

Check out all of this information at the following links:

In addition to all of this, we have been treated to a new trailer which Cryptic Studios have teamed up with IGN to release.  At the moment, only a low quality version of the trailer is publically available, with a HD version available to IGN Insiders only, but its a good trailer and well worth a watch.

Check it out on our YouTube account at

Venture Beat also have some cool videos up on their website from a recent visit they paid to Cryptic Studios HQ - check them at

Finally, Next Tuesday, October 20, at 11:30 a.m. Pacific time (we’re GMT -7 right now), Cryptic are holding a developer’s chat in the official Star Trek Online IRC chat!

This week's topic is player progression. They have talked about this previously in an Ask Cryptic, but they want to use this chat for any follow-up questions you'd like to ask the devs in real time.

If you’d like to join them, point your IRC program of choice toward #STO on, or head to which is tied directly into their IRC.

All the details look great!  I'm particularly excited about which tiers which ships got assigned to...I really like those decisions in particular.

The 3 ship "classes" is also great too.  Escorts will be your "general DPS" class, Cruisers sound like they'd do great at "Tanking" and because of their engineering specialties, may even be able to apply CC abilities to other ships.  Science ships seem to be the general technical class, rolling dedicated repair [healing] and some CC abilities all into one.  The customization looks great too as I'm hoping it will allow us to blur the lines between these 3 set classes.

Lookin great on lets start that Closed Beta Test we were promised this year!! :)

Nice~  Now the Klingon players get some love, especially after that bombshell about having to play through the Federation tutorial to 'unlock' Klingons..  >.>

Nice Klingon trailer. Seems that the 'other' faction is starting to emerge from behind the nebula of secrecy. :startrek051:

Mind you, I cannot foresee that many science class vessels in the Klingon ship Tiers. :startrek052:
