For almost a month now, Hailing Frequency has been delving into the past with a look back at the game that wasn't meant to be - Perpetual Entertainments Incarnation of Star Trek Online.

At the time of this article, we are now only about four and a half days away from the time that the mysterious Cryptic Countdown will hit zero - and to that end, we feel that its time to stop looking back at Perpetuals STO and start looking forward to Cryptics STO - and we are going to cover both of these in this article today.

Lets take a few final steps back in time however, to late January of this year, when Hailing Frequency first heard word from Perpetual Entertainment that they were passing on the torch to another bay area developer. Within moments of this information hitting our in boxes, the staff here at Hailing Frequency very quickly produced a short list of game developers and studios in the Bay Area that might have the resources to make this game and we started calling them one by one.  Our efforts back then did not go without results and our enthusiasm and love for what we do did not go unnoticed - which has allowed to be in the position for this series of articles to drop little tidbits of information about our beloved upcoming game.

One thing that Perpetual Entertainment were notorious for, was bad relations with their community - and the story was not very different here at  Hailing Frequency or at places like STOnet - Perpetual Entertainment just did not know how to deal with its community, but the good news is, the new developer has a great deal of experience in this area and even has a team dedicated specifically to PR for Star Trek Online.  Behind the scenes, they have been working for months now to construct an intricate, well laid plan for Public Relations, Media Releases, Media Leaks, so on and so forth and Hailing Frequency can safely assure folks that we have an exciting period ahead of us.

No longer are we going to be left hanging for months to wonder what is happening with our game - No longer we the community be left out of the loop. Those days are over and once the new developer has made their announcement, they will be in regular contact with their community, by way of community forums and by way of fan sites like Hailing Frequency.

Moving on, and now for one final look back at Perpetuals STO, please find below a final range of images from Perpetual Entertainments doomed game.

As some of you may have realised - alot of these images were taken with a webcam - And alot of you are right - These images were taken as part of a Webcam Tour of STO that certain folks were given by Perpetual Entertainment - Yet another example of bad PR.

The good news? Hailing Frequency has a trip planned to the bay area sometime next year - This means no webcam tours of STO - Just pure HD DVD Folks!

Until next time, Viva La Star Trek Online!

The second image looks like it might be a Norway class... maybe.

The 7th looks like an alien drydock.

I love the high quality they were going for in the original game, like the shot of the science lab / sickbay in the 8th screenshot above the Akira.
I really would have loved to see the other parts of the ship they built besides the corridors, briefing room, and now the surgical bay.

i would love to see that image of what seems to be a planet blowing up (the yellow star'ish one) and the one before it (blue star thingy)  :D

we already knew about the Akira from the early images that were released (why waste the code of a ship when it can be reused??) and the other images apart from those i have mentioned and the outpost are a hard to really make out  :ugh:

although i thought that the space dock(is it?) was a steamrunner class ship at first haha
