What stood out for me was the following question:

Quote
How customizable will Bridge Officers be? Will players be allowed to choose their race, gender, name and/or physical appearance?

I found the answer quite pleasing at first...and then it struck me! I wonder how many players will be "hiring" an all-female or all-male crew? If I was to beam over to a friends ship for some interactive PvP on that ship, I would be quite disappointed in seeing a single-gender bridge crew on their ship. To me that would not be Trek at all.
Oh well, to each their own, but I wouldn't like to see that! And more especially when you can:

modify and customize the uniform of your characters, but it will always have the look of a uniform.

I see a ship load of Seven of Nine's in tight jumpsuit's?

Actually I have to disagree with you, we have actually seen one example in canon where the ships captain had choosen all of one species to be his crew.

TOS -  one episode "The Immunity Syndrome" (IIRC), all Vulcan crewed Ship destroyed. I have no problem with an all one species crew, it's in canon, so it's possible. In the early federation timeframe, ships were built at Vulcan, Andor and Earth, thus ships built at those yards typically had crews from those planets, as time went on, crew mingling became more common. BY TNG time, i'd think that all one species crews would be frowned on as against the ideals of the federation.

looking past canon for a second, you have to remember that this is a game. And i do believe that you would be putting your ship into a tactical disadvantage if you make all your Officers the same race. As we know, all the races will have many bonuses to their ablities and skills. Therefore, should you decide to pick just one race, your ship will most likely be lopsided on what it can do. So yes, filling your ship with Vulcans can be done, but then only your science abilities and skills would be boosted. Now of course, this is also a strategy, should you be only focusing on having doing some sciencey things while flying about.

Therefore, it seems to me, that having a mixed pool of races would make your ship most balanced and able to do the most amount of things.

True there are a few Races that have very very specific needs ad may draw a ship fully crewed by them, but the vast majority can deal with standard enviroments. Vulcans have been known to have their personal Quarters and even work stations set to Vulcan gravity, with their quarters being set to Vulcan temps.Same with andorians and with the advent of the holodeck, they can take a quick 2-4 hour trip into a full enviroment of thier choosing to reregulate themselves. ZI'm sure sympythetic captains would have their shifts shortened or split to accomidate such cultural needs.

Although we have to also remeber by TNG, CRews were 90% human, as other races were regulated to back seat roles.

I was referring to a single-gender crew, but I'll let it slide. ^_^

I would tend to agree with knightofhyrule730 however:

That alone would bring your ship up to a standard above and beyond the starting norm for the game. The GameInformer article did state that your command crew and your ship's crew would bring "certain" asset's and abilities into the mix. Adding racial trait abilities would also enhance your capabilities within the game.
