Exploration vessel; Commissioned: 2409

A starship designed to carry Federation influence throughout the Alpha Quadrant and beyond, the NX-91001 is one of the first multi-role starship designs since the Sovereign class was commissioned in the early 2370s. Able to function as a deep-space explorer with extensive sensors and laboratory facilities for scientific research, the NX-91001 also is outfitted as a heavy cruiser armed with some of the latest in Starfleet weapons technology for deployment in hostile areas.

The NX-91001 contains the best of the new technologies developed in the past 40 years. Bioneural circuitry mimics organic neurons, speeding data functions and improving computer performance. An advanced sensor pod can be operated from the bridge or manned directly for intense sweeps, and includes telemetric observation VISOR technology to allow a science officer to interface directly with data transmitted by a robotic exo-probe.

A holoemitter array system allows Emergency Medical and Emergency Command Holograms to operate throughout the ship when needed, and the ship is equipped with a Class 10 warp drive for normal operation and an advanced hyper impulse drive for sublight operation. The Class 10 warp drive is equipped with an advanced quantum sublimating theta-matrix compositor which recrystalizes the shipís dilithium into a much more stable form than earlier models. This allows the NX-91001 to go much longer distances at high warp velocities before needing to replace the crystals.

Defensive systems of this starship are based on significant advances in Federation technology. The starship features an ablative tetraburnium alloy hull, which allows it to withstand greater amounts of heat and pressure than any previous design, and regenerative shields on the NX-91001 can adapt to enemy weapons fire during a battle. The ship also carries a full suite of offensive weapons, including 16 Type XIV phaser arrays, eight torpedo launchers and several other weapons. Note: Because of the recent conflicts, the complete weapons configuration of the NX-91001 is classified.

sothat's what that weird ship with the connection on the nacceles from the vid is. meh, it's ok, but i don't like the "must be bigger and bigger" trend.

Toooooooooooo much firepower.  Too many photon bays.  Photons are weapons of mass destruction. that is just overkill.

Nothing out there besides a major empire enemy should require that kind of power.

What does this say about where the combat ships will be?   30-50+ phaser arrays @ type 16-100,  plus 100 torp bays?

Anyway I hate being negative on X-Mas and I thank them so much for giving us a gift...that is awesome...but it does seem a bit Hannah Barbaric with regards to firepower.

--Merry Christmas.

The term "Explorer" is a categorical one. In current Star Trek, Enterprise-D is the largest Explorer, while Voyager is classified as a "Light Explorer". Think of the Explorer-category ships as the ones Star Trek TV shows would follow. (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Explorer_ship) - they're our capital ships...ones you'd want fighting Borg cubes in times of war, and ships you'd want exploring the furthest reaches of space. They'd be staffed as you see Enterprise and Voyager: talented science, command, and diplomatic officers qualified to deal with first contact situations, backed by a solid security team for facing the hostiles of the unknown.

I'd bet this is going to be the Stargazer-A's class...which I believe to be taking on the role of Flagship of the Fleet following a decommissioning of the Enterprise-E.

As capitol ships go, this one is a beaut, but the real joy lies within it's technology.
Holographic Consoles;  Trans-Deck Holoemitter Array System; Tetraburnium Alloy Ablative Hull; Bioneural Circuitry: these alll speak highly of the capabilities I would like within my own ship in-game.
This NX class may be the new Stargazer-A class, or it may not be, but it is definitely a ship to be reckoned with, whether on a science mission or not.
I doubt it will be the Fleet Flagship though, as an 'Enterprise' has held that honour for nigh on a century and a half. And Enterprise's don't get de-commissioned...they get destroyed/refitted/scuttled. :)

The Stargazer class, was mentioned as to be launched in 2382, If you look at this new design the devs gave us the date the ship is available is in year 2409 when the game launches.

And yes Starfleet typically refers to their fleets as ships of exploration rather than as 'warships' to emphasize the federations 'peaceful' nature.

I'm stoopid.

With all the x-mas haste I am just now getting around to reading posts and what Awen said about it being a ship of 'influence', its multi-purpose role, etc.

so...neverrmind.

On another level: W thought there was a 14 degree rule on the nacelles? That they are supposed to angle out and not in.

- What is Bernium?
