Over the weekend, Hailing Frequency received word from sources close to Perpetual that STO had been cancelled, in the meantime we have been seeking confirmation of that and clarification, but WarCry seem to have grasped a little more info on the fate of STO and those who had been developing it until now, head over there to read the full story;

Quote
P2 Entertainment - formerly Perpetual Entertainment - has ceased development on Star Trek Online, according to multiple sources at the San Francisco based developer. The news does not, however, mean that the game is canceled. The license, as well as the game's content - but not the code - have been transferred to another Bay Area development studio where work will continue. It is not entirely clear at this time what this means for the individual developers who worked on the project at P2.

UPDATE:

This is a sad topic for me. I am disappointed that ST:O will be further delayed, if ever it will come to life at all. However, I am also glad because I feel that fresh blood is needed here, and that PE/P2 has already had far too much time with this IP. So now it's the waiting game to see what is in store for us all. My condolences to the hard working developers and programmers for the loss of their jobs, and fire and brimstone to the management there.

AND this is a Example of what Lotus Fleet Officers are made off, at one moment we show compassion for the less fortunate while seeking the destruction of those who might cause pain to us all!.  nk2

on a lighter note, last night I was actually discussing the Future of STO in Cryptic hands. come of the points that where brought up in our discussion was the idea of a cross contamination between Marvel Universe Developers and STO development, basically what I explained is that because the two are at two completely ends of the development spectrum at this point what STO may benefit from because Marvel Universe is going to be competition for COX is that we will have the fortune of seeing the developmental technologies that went into COX, and then where improved that exist into Marvel Universe and finally see a much better product emerge from STO.

I believe that Cryptic truely does have the innovation to drive forward the Star Trek Communities vision of what STO should be.

Cryptic as a developer would be even worse than PE. At least PE didn't have any bad games on their resume when attempting to make this game. Cryptic has both CoH and CoV which were so terrible they had to sell them.

I know rocks with more "innovation" than Cryptic.
