I completely agree RR, they'r making a cookie cutter MMO with the skin of Star Trek, but the skelton and internals are niot there to support the skin. thgis is nothing more than what has happened to every mjor IP MMO to date, throw canon out the window to make it fit the WoW format, sorry I'm just not biting on it this time. Game development has advanced far beyound what they're trying to give us, why don't they just wake up and realize people don't want "Shoot'em up" MMO's anymore.

To be honest, I am actually liking alot of what I read above.  I can see that Cryptic is trying to incorporate alot of familiar Star Trek aspects and unlike some others here, I am encouraged. Things could be alot worse.

I am especially interested to hear more about their Episodic Style mission delivery system as I must admit, it has me very curious.

I am also glad to hear that familiar places such as P'jem are being included - True, the monestary itself was destroyed back in the days of Archer, but we never did get a sense of the scale of the destruction and I think that it is conceivable that the monestary would have been re-built in some form in the space of 300 years.

Species 8472 is another welcome addition from my point of view, I have always been fascinated by this race, so any further story development on that road is welcomed.

Regarding Space Combat, once again, the references to a slow, tactical battle system more than please me.

I have never been a "HARDCORE" gamer and as such, I have always taken games at their face value without really looking to much under the surface and to be honest, I am liking what Cryptic is doing and where they are going,

Look folks, I know it's fun to sit and wargame, but don't count the chickens before they are hatched.  War and space battles are not Star Trek?  Um, anyone watch DS9?  Anyone?

The Andorians were only interested in destroying the monitoring station on P'Jem, not the monistary itself.  The monistary could have easily been re-built.

I agree with RR on the V'Ger thing though...unless it's found way out in the fringes of the galaxy.

There are two ways of looking at this...optimistically or pesimistically.  I'm choosing to keep an open mind to see what Cryptic's final product will be.  From what I've read, they are using every resource at their disposal, from books to the dvds of shows to the movies, to try and create Star Trek.  Of course it isn't going to be exactly the Trek we've all known b/c it's 30ish years in the future!  The books have the Borg, in 2381, stepping up their attacks on the Federation...makes sense that we're going to get attacked by the Borg a little more often in the game.

Basically, just be patient and keep an open mind.  Not everyone can be satisfied by one product.
