Hailing Frequency aquires Streaming Server
« on: 23 July 2008 05:30 PM »
PRESS RELEASE: July 23rd 2008: - Hailing Frequency is pleased to report that as of July 22nd 2008, we have acquired and made operational a streaming radio server capable of supporting up to 400 simultaneous listeners.

Plans for the streaming server are currently being made, but as of this post, we have plans to be transmitting in the final four hours of the Cryptic Countdown on Sunday 27th, as well as a shorter pre-countdown show on Saturday 26th at a time to be determined.

In addition, we are planning to transmit on a schedule to be determined from the Las Vegas Star Trek Convention, which Kinneas will be attending from Monday August 4th until Monday August 11th. We hope to bring a range of exclusive interviews and exciting content for the duration of the event.

We will also be working on a streaming non-live play list that will be continuously updated which we will hopefully be streaming on a 24/7 Basis.

All content, both live and pre-recorded will be 100% family friendly.  Our topic of focus will be entirely Star Trek Gaming and we hope to provide coverage of trek game tournaments, upcoming games from Bethesda or Bad Robot and indeed, Star Trek Online.

Hailing Frequency has been on the fore-front of Star Trek Gaming News since 2005 and to date we have produced over 60 podcasts, breaking news segments or special releases.  Podcasts will continue to be released every two to three weeks, and we hope to further extend our range of services and coverage with our streaming server.

Server Technology for the Hailing Frequency streaming server is being gratiously provided by Lotus Fleet and is being powered by Winamps Shoutcast Software.  All Music used on Hailing Frequency will be entirely Creative Commons.

Scheduling Information and Listen Now Links will be posted shortly!

Just to follow up on this - Hailing Frequency has always planned to offer a live service in time for the release of Star Trek Online - Hence the reason we have always pushed the idea of "Fleet Radio".

With Star Trek Online due to be re announced in the near future, we had decided back in February that we would be attempting to go live this year, however in recent months with the departure of MrJuliano and the Launch of STO-Zone Live, we allowed these plans to be put on hold.

With us moving ever closer to Star Trek Online once again, and with the current uncertain nature of STO-Zone Live and its reformat to an uncensored show, we have decided that now is the time to launch our own streaming option.

This is not an attempt to compete with STO-Zone Live in any way - merely the continuation of plans we had intended to make a reality all along.

I hope you will enjoy the content that we will be bringing via our Streaming Server in the coming weeks and months.

As long as the streaming music has some good tunes like AC/DC, Dropkick Murphys, Pink Flyod, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Guns and Roses, etc. then I'm all good!

Well, if you would like to cover the cost of Royalties for those songs, then sure, we can play those.

If not, then I am afraid we have to stick to Creative Commons Music only.
