Playing old games on windows 7

Hey guys Merry Christmas!!! So I have some old star trek games that will run on windows 98, I cant get them to work on 7, is there anyway I can play them on my laptop, or I'm I out of luck?? Thanks!!!!

Whenever i try to play  old games on windows 7 My monitor blacks out. Any help must be appreciated.

Fallout3 should work under vanilla windows7 without any issues (vanilla means without having to adjust any settings or installing additional software other then your drivers, etc.)
