Spot reserved for May 8th/9th. =)

SPOILERS BELOW !!

Okay! Finally saw the movie last night.
 I liked it...'nuff said!

Although the ice planet scenes were necessary to meet the future Spock, they could have left out the 'monster's' and had Spock retrieve Kirk. It would have dropped a few minutes from that slot and they could have spent more time on Scotty.
And I agree with the transport to the Enterprise hooey. WTF? At max warp the Enterprise should have been a couple sectors away! I mean Vulcan is no where near the Sol system.
But, what was up with that water system? I could see the beam in happening in that way, but into a water pipe? On a star ship? As mentioned above, the whole section looked like an oil rig or treatment plant.
Chris Pine was an excellent Kirk, Zoe Saldana made an eye-catching Uhura, and I enjoyed Montgomery Scotts antics, especially with his liitle 'friend'.
Also, I can agree that a wormhole of that size shouldn't swallow Vulcan, but perhaps it was a regenerating one that grew as it ate. Once the planet was consumed it burnt itself out, so to speak.
It is a good thing this is in an alternate reality, because we all know that Spock's mother was around to talk with him after he died and was re-born in the two movies.
The bridge fight between Spock and Kirk? Well, 'old' Spock did tell Kirk to get 'young' Spock angry. But of course, the rest of the bridge crew would not have stood around and watched it go on and on like it did.

So, all in all, I loved the movie...it is Trek after all...but I cannot give it two thumbs up. Say, one and a half thumbs up? :)

We were lucky enough at Fedcon 2009, that in the opening cermony we got to see 30 minutes worth of clips from the movie (no spoilers really, really good clips)..

I think this is going to be the funniest star trek movie ever, at least the clips we saw had LOTS of humor. Which could be good. The effects and everything is also reallz awesome. and I can´t wait to see the entire movie, and I´m prettz sure I wont be disappointed :)

OK folks, i just came out from seeing the new movie for the first time and i have to say - AWESOME.

During the first few minutes of the film, on board the Kelvin, i must admit to having a few WTF moments and a thought that maybe just maybe i had made a mistake in seeing the movie, but that feeling quickly passed.

Within the first few moments of the film, we are introduced to our villain and George Kirk valiently sacrifices himself to save the crew of the Kelvin as they escape in shuttles. This moment almost brought me to tears as the kelvin approachs its collision and over the com on one of the escaping shuttles, his wife gives birth to Jim Kirk.

Skip forward thirty years, kirk joins starfleet after some enncouragement from Captain Pike.  The rest of the movie flows perfdectly from here and its just amazing.  i wont give anymore away.

Memorable moments:

Mccoy - "my wife to the whole damn planet in our divorce."

Scottys reference to Admiral Archers beagle.

Checkov trying to get the computer to recognise his "v"s.
in his authorisation code - wiktor wiktor  ahahahahaha!

Vulcan (you will know what i mean when you watch)

Spock and Uhura - this was certainly and eye raiser

Spock kicking Kirks ass on the Bridge of the Enterprise.

Spock and Spock meeting for the first time.

The sexy orion girl at the academy..

Leonard Nimoy's  "Space, the final frontier" at the end.

That is all i can think of right now, but i am sure i will think off more.

The one and only moment of the movie i thought was corny was the Nokia phone in young Kirk's car.....Puh-lease.

Seeing all the pipes and innards of the ship was interesting and believeable.  We never saw anything like that in the Trek we all know and love, but you have to believe it was there somewhere.

One final thing i will say....Star Trek has had no advertising whatsoever here in Serbia, nothing, yet that cinema room filled up fast.  The capacity was around 1000 seats and it was full.  If it can be like that here where there has been no advertising, i can only imagine what it will be like tomorrow across the UK and USA and everywhere else when it opens at 8pm.

In conclusion, i loved this movie and cant wait for the sequel - my girlfriend liked it too and she didnt expect to.

The casting was top notch, the music and special effects too - viva la Star Trek.

Its awesome Warborg.  Some more things i forgot...

Huge funny moment when Scotty is accidentally beamed into the Water Pipes.....was laughing my ass off.

There was a mind meld sequence that recounted the storyline from countdown and how Nero got into the past, which was awesome.

Sulu gets an excellent sword fight with some kind of Katana, prior to that, they space jumped onto a platform which was scary!

Scotty makes a classic comment about Sandwichs at one point which caused the whole room to burst laughing.

Again, this movie was amzing and i cant wait for Star Trek XII!!

I found out just now that the movie was shown on 3 screens at the cineplex i was at so all in all about 2200 people saw it with me - it was packed, not just with nerdy trekkies either, there were tonnes of hot women around my age!  This new Trek really does appeal to a wide range, but dont worry, it TOTALLY feels like the Trek we all love.

Night all

well i seen it today - simple awesome!

Music: brilliant!

during the first scenes when the kelvin goes full speed into Nero's i thought the projectionist messed up again (as he started the film mirrored and caused a 5 minute delay in pure darkness) but nope the music played and my god it was beautifull.

i didnt stay when the credits rolled though so i cant say much for the new tune :s although the credit sequence was great!

Effects: top notch! BSG Quality effects (actually kept thinking of BSG with the scenes of ships going warp and coming back out of it as it was much more a FLT jumpdrive than warp)

Acting: great! Zachary was great a young spock although i admit there was a few times i thought he was going to wave his hand up, pin people against the wall and just become Sylar haha

one thing i would like to note is the red shirt during the orbital sky diving scene: funny as hell :D i was in my own world laughing at his laughter and apparent crazyness although i did notice he had a strong british accent :)

Story: was actually good! i am glad that they themselves stablished that they are now apart of an Alternate universe which means that all the other trek stuff we have had (TOS, Ent, Voy, TNG, DS9 etc) doesnt go to the toilet :)

also that scene about how Romulus was destroyed was great and i couldent help but secretly think "ahh i know what happened! woo STO story updates for the win haha"

on the whole:

i thought the movie was great! definantly going to get it on Special edition DVD whenever i can :)

i am glad now that i did spend the money to see it aswell as hear that they are planning it was a trilogy instead of a one-off film :)

Funny moments (where myself and the people in watching it laughed out loud):

Scotty: teleportation accident, "i love this ship" during a really really awkward moment on the bridge, "im givin' it all' she's got capt'n!", sandwiche scene :)

Checov trying to authorise himself on the computer

Spock, Uhura and Kirk on the telepad "is that your n..*cut off*" "i have no further comment on this matter!"

there are plenty more moments within the film but they would depend on your view of humor :)

Was I really the only one who did not like the movie?

I thought it was just a really bad action movie dressed up in Star Trek. The plot is bad, there is no real story and the whole premise of the movie is just ridiculous. There is NO star trek feeling over the movie what so ever :(
