I would say, the only negative i really ultimately have is the destruction of Vulcan, as well as Romulus, it really throws the time line of what we already know into limbo.

#1: Vulcan can be "rebuilt" in the form of a new colony on a new planet, and name the planet Vulcan. Old Spock was gonna help form the new colony, so i'm sure he knows a thing or two about what their old society was like.

Yeah, Vulcan can be rebuilt on an new colony on an new planet. Though it will take them along time (centuries) to rebuild what they lost, as well younger spock said that he est aprox 10-15 thousand saved, that isn't alot of Vulcan to repopulate. Vulcan, also would become part of the protection of Earth IMO, not only the federation, also what about unethical means of repopulate of Vulcan as well, did Vulcan have other colonies as well, we cant presume they don't, but older spock would help to relocate them. As well, since older spock is stuck in the past per se, he could warn Kirk about his future in his demise which would also change the timeline for future events.

The best part about a new timeline is that they can avoid the Trek most people don't like. They can avoid stuff that is outdated or too silly for modern viewers to stand.

Well, the Klingon Ambassador in Star Trek 4, did say that Vulcans were the "intellectual puppets of the Federation". Granted, that event only happened about 30 years after which this movie was set. But a smaller amount of Vulcans would also explain why we haven't seen very many Vulcans in the TNG-era. We really can't say for sure, what impact the destruction of this Vulcan has on the timeline.

The movie seams ok, but ship interiors?

Good point, we don't see that many Vulcans in the TNG era, that is an interesting idea i didn't even think about it.

Ok my turn!  I have been purposefully avoiding all things Trek leading up to my screening of the film.  We saw it in IMAX on May 9th.  Since then I've been wrapped up with my brother's wedding, but now that that is all done and behind me, I can poke my head in here more often.

On to my thoughts on the new movie.

I loved it.  So OK, the Enterprise was built in Iowa?  OK seems like a waste of Space Dock, but no enough to turn me off.  Alternate timeline...OK pretty much saw that coming from the first whisperings of the "reboot."  I even liked that little lizard looking thing that Scotty had with him, even though, as my wife pointed out, that thing was the Jar-Jar of the new Trek movie.
I loved that they kept true to the spirit of Trek and it was about the characters not the ship or the tech.

Anyways, that's it for now...more to come.

Well i forced myself to sit through the whole thing and I can safely say it SUCKED horribly.

I liked the acting and the actors, but the story was just bad. I used to do security in a dairy for a few years, when I saw the engine room in thr enterprise  I thought, "what did they run out of cash on special effects and filmed engineering in a dairy??!!" And what idiot thought it would be cool to go get a tumbleweed  and paint it black ??? to serve as the romulan ship.
I could go on and on about how bad this film was, but this will do for now.  Until I can get my comp fixed anyways.
