Aftermath 1.9 info, news and more
« on: 06 April 2008 12:18 AM »
Thanks for the comments. Evolution has been merged in with System Conquest (still not sure whether System Conquest will ever return). In it at the moment it still in testing stages but once its finished you will be able to start in an era of your choice and you will start in a different system depending on the era you select. If you pick to start in ENT, you will start in the ENT era system. Once you have taken the main starbase in the ENT system you can then proceed to the TOS and TNG systems if you like (multiple systems on the one map). Though with Evolution, you can make it as hard or as easy as you want as its pretty much free exploration though if you start your Evolution in the ENT era and you fly out to the TNG system you have pretty much signed your death wish. A tip with Evolution is do not play cat and mouse with them as they will follow you wherever you go and with the maps that large you can certainly run from them but not hide as they will hunt you down.

Now onto our first major news piece for 1.9, we got alot to go through today.

First up, we got new members on the team now. Since 1.7 we have had 3 new modders join up to Aftermath. First up is Barihawk, he came on just before 1.7 dropped but he is working on the ENT era at the moment in balancing and new ships area (more on that later). Second member is our latest one to join up is Trekky/Conner. He will mainly be working in the scripting area but he also be on over at New Gen too. The two teams will be training Trekky/Conner in scripting and mapping so each team benefits. Our third member is an already established modder that has had over a years experience with Legacy. Accurus has signed up with Aftermath, he has had very succesful run over at TLG and has been around throughout the development of Aftermath (in fact, he actually came up with the name of the mod way back last year). Many areas of Aftermath are shared with both TLG and New Gen and all the teams work well with each other.

We also have people that do work on Aftermath but not on a permanent basis such as Dontdrunkimshoot/Fangoriously of the OEM mod. He helps out with the Vulcan ship area and several other odf areas. We also work together in other areas too. Also we work with New Gen alot too in a few areas that are in development.

Work on 1.9 is going well. Our first bits of material we have been showing are our map rebuilds of all stock  maps (including campaign) and our new Borg Cube textures. Alot of the stock maps have had drastic changes made to them that give them a whole new feel, some of the most drastic changed maps are Ikalia, Klothos and Taugus. Our Borg Cube is the work of Skeeter and is very impressive and finally looks formidable. The visual difference with our Cube is the first of many changes the Borg will be having for 1.9.

Other areas in development are the expansions of the Historicals, One on One, Evolution and Armada modes (more maps/missions for them) plus the inclusions of new modes (the modes will be announced later on in development). We have also just begun our first major revamp of the weaponry system from weapons themselves right through to weapons behaviors and characteristics. One such new behavior is the phaser impact against a shield has been revamped to give off light and the colour of the phaser will show up in the impact area on the shields to give an overall effect of heat dissipation.

Gameplay will also be overhauled too with more importance being played on ship selections as there will be advantages to picking certain classes over others such as the inclusion of cloak detection in some classes. What we are doing is further distinguishing the ship classes from each other.

There be plenty more videos and shots put up over the coming development cycle of 1.9.

Thanks, we got plenty more shots (a good 50+ currently...). We will soon start posting up special Hailing Frequencies only shots too.

More news and promo shots for everyone, we putting up 9 shots for all you people.

We actually have done stuff this week though. New registries have been made, more map rebuilds, mission developments, mode developments, new ship classes, shaders, textures, weapon behaviors and mission foundations.. We have been having a few quiet weeks lately as majority of us have had many things pop up along the way. We have started our class separation area, this also involves the creation of new classes too as some ships really dont fit into the class that they were given (such as the Akira). Our Historical roster for 1.9 is slowly shaping up, there a few areas that need to be ironed out first before that area gets underway. Just about all stock maps have been rebuilt in the Death Match environment, many having player counts increased and some have had drastic overhauls compared to their original counterparts. We got plenty of other areas we are working on too, more of those areas throughout the week.

Todays shots are as follows in order. Shot 1 is of the Acamar map rebuild. Shot 2 is of the Cestus map rebuild. Shot 3 is of the Gamoran map rebuild. Shot 4 is of the Glintara map rebuild. Shot 5 is of the Terix map rebuild. Shot 6 is a teaser shot from one of our new modes (we will announce this mode formally later on). Shot 7 is of our updated USS Lexington. Shot 8 is of our USS Bellerophon, one of the many new registries for 1.9 and shot 9 is of the USS Nagamaki. Around 95% of our ship registries follow their canon naming conventions. Either the registries themselves have been seen on screen or the registries follow the naming conventions for the ship classes.

Here is your first Hailing Frequencies only shot for this week of our updated Intrepid class glows. The new glows make the ship more accurate by adding new areas such as the impulse engine glows which were previously not there. The glow work is done by Gamemaster. Throughout the week you will be getting a couple more exclusive shots too. This shot is taken from the complete map rebuild of Delta Omeron.

More exclusive shots for you people, you get two this week plus we also got some new videos up all over the place. First up is the new videos we have up over at Live Video and ModDB. With Live Video, we have 2 new videos (Glintara and Delta Omeron map rebuilds) and over at ModDB we have alternate footage of the Glintara map. The two maps are part of the stock DM map rebuild project that will be in the 1.9 release. These videos are also the first set taken of the 1.9 release, apart from the maps, they also show off some of the prototype areas we are still working on (such as shields, weaponry, glows etc). With ModDB, the Glintara map is just alternate footage. Something else also with ModDB is Aftermath got its highest rank ever, not once but twice in the same week; we ranked in at the top spot (1st out of over 7000+ mods). We have always had a very good run over at ModDB which has in turn opened up many opportunities for us (one being the deal with Gamestar Magazine). This not too bad at all and speaks volumes on the quality and effort we put into the mod.

Aftermath at Live Video (2 new videos)
Aftermath videos at ModDB (1 new)

Now for your exclusive shots, here we have two shots from the Sigma Ceti map rebuild. This map would have to be the most drastic rebuild of the project, the way how it turned out once it was rebuilt takes the map to a complete new level. Sigma Ceti is now one of our most dramatic maps that has its own character and feel which makes it stand out from the others. The atmosphere this map brings is something else even from the moment you first start out in the map. This is one area where Aftermath excels over everyone else, the level of attention and detail we put into our map making process is unrivalled by any Legacy mod. At the end of the day, you can have all the ships you want but if you dont have the right environments to play them in people wont be coming back to your mod they will move onto the other ones.

It been a while since we have posted any news on the mod but we still alive and going on with the mod. There have been lots of small changes done to the mod in many areas, alot of odf balancing, the map rebuilds are finished, a few interface areas have come up (more on this alot closer to 1.9 being released). Today you getting 4 shots before everyone else gets to see them, these are presents given to Aftermath which will be explained n detail over the coming months.

Military looking ships.

More bits of news for you all today, instead of shots from the mod you get a nice video instead. There are countless photos of 1.9 up in the Bethesda boards and over at Star Trek Games (Chessmess's site). You get a total of 8mins worth of footage and it shows off a boat load of content for 1.9 too. Now we be going into detail on what exactly is video as there is actually quite abit of content.

First thing you will notice is the map itself which is the Tiburon map rebuild (I think Dontdrunk may have put up footage of this one too for the OEM mod, not sure). Second is the graphics look different (better shadows, more depth etc and all without using Shaders 3.0). On from graphics you will also notice the retextures of the Poseidon, NX and Minuteman. Though blink and you will miss the Minuteman retexture as it went bang, it abit of a dramatic moment actually, you get to see its final moments and you know its lights out once that torp hits it. Poseidon soon followed the Minuteman not long after that.

When looking at how the battle unfolds you also notice a few other areas. One being the ENT era balancing by Barihawk in full effect and the new shield hit effects which are a combination of new textures by Skeeter and code areas by myself and Barihawk. The other area is the AI. Ships are cloaking a whole lot more (and cloaking after laying a few torps into you too...),battles more spread out and gives a sense of the battle being all around you too, AI warping alot more. Another area you will notice is how our ships blow up (this an actual 1.7 feature, ships drifting off on death), you see the Klingon battlecruiser drifting lifelessly into space then it blows up.

Thats alot you get to see in the video. Now you can either watch the video over at our Live Video page or download it yourselves. I rather download the video as the Live Video player isnt as good as the actual footage.

News updates for people over here. In short, 1.9 has cancelled, 2.0 is the next release. Dont have a clue on when 2.0 will be out, hopefully within a few months...

We got pictures and video to show, the pictures are all retextures of some sort or another from 2.0. And in the video you get to see 3 sneak peak segments of areas still in development for 2.0. Two being the two new game modes each being done by Gamemaster (1st one) and Skeeter (2nd one). The third is the very first footage of the cycle 2 interface. We are in the middle of interface transitions between the cycle 1 interface to the new one and it still a long way off. At the moment we just have a few of the buttons made for it but it has a more darker feel to it.
