Star Trek Legacy the Ultimate Universe?
« on: 16 April 2007 08:16 PM »
i noticed Acidrain posted the link to download the new Ultimate Universe mod for Star Trek Legacy.  well he doesnt really go into much detail as to what the mod actually does  nk3.  so ill do it for him.  now for all you people who have no idea what im talking about, The Ultimate Universe mod project is being done by a team of modders headed by Chris Jones of Chris Jones Gaming.  Now there is quite a list of things i could go into about chris jones and his team but thats not really important right now if you havent even heard of the guy.  my advice if you like what you read here go and download the Ultimate Universe mod if you didnt like Legacy the first time around, install the mod give it a go and if u like what u see google chris jones gaming and go leave them so love.  now on to business

The Ultimate Universe Mod does a lot of major improvements to the game.  in fact its still in the demo stage and it looks impressive.  First off if you're like me and want to see what they improved upon they you'll be impressed with the campaign.  the first mission of the campaign is still the ENT era, the first thing you'll notice is that they have replaced the warp sound with the canon sounds used in various tv shows.  next thing you'll notice is the amazing retexturing they have done to the enterprise.  it actually looks like the same graphics from the TV (recommended you have the graphics on high or better and have shadows on).  Enterprise has a much darker kind of bluish color to it, much better than the white-grey color the game originally had.  so now you've gotten into piloting enterprise in the first mission, next major thing you will notice is they have added another phaser to the frontal phaser array so now u can fire a maximum of 2 phasers at a time.  and now the torpedoes are smaller and much faster (in my opinion i liked them bigger and it seemed like they did more damage then.  however the torpedoes are a major topic and this is still the demo so they have a chance to change before phase I release).

One of my favorite things they have added in is the new TOS enterprise (not the constitution refit the original connie).  they have improved that with new textures, canon warp sound effects, canon phaser sound effects, and new voices and scripts of the bridge crew like Scotty for example.

Note: All federation ships in all eras have the new canon warp sounds

For the next generation era, they have added in voices and scripts of the bridge crew including Worf, Jordi, Picard, and i think Beverly Crusher but dont hold it against me if i was mistaken on that one.

There arent really any major improvements to talk about for DS9 or Voyager yet.  but rest assured there will be some great content for those franchises as well.

Besides the ships and campaigns, there have been major improvements elsewhere.  There are now 2 additional races to the game.  They are the Cardassian-Dominian and the Vulcans.  Again this is still demo stage so there isnt much to talk about with them because there are many more ships to come and several bugs that need to be worked out (a patch has been released that might already correct those for all i know, i havent gotten a chance to download it yet  :andorian1: ).  there are also quite a few new maps available from the better TV show episodes and movies.

There is also some COMPLETLY NEW game modes i have to talk about.  My personnal favorite is the armada mode.  Now its pretty self explanatory, in armada, you choose your ships like normal right.  However when you start the game you are suddenly in control of countless ships, enough to make your computer get very laggy, id reccomend turning your graphics down a lot.  The Armada mission i played was actually a very good version of first contact.  they seemed to think of everything when they did this one.  They actually came up with what they called a "Super Cube" now this super cube doesnt look that different from your standard borg cube.  but thats when you tell all your ships to charge on it and you realize "why is this thing so d**n hard to kill?" well i have a feeling that upped the armor settings on this one.  Another new game mode they added is the Historical Battles.  I shouldnt even have to explain this one.  what they've basicly done with this one is they've found the best episodes/movies of the whole franchise and made a battle/battleground of it.  i was really quite impressed by this one.  What they also done is you can play the side of the federation in the games or you can play the otherside in the exact same mission but as like the klingons, romulans, etc.  i actually got around to play the nemesis one and i was really quite impressed.  i had recently saw the movie again about a month ago so i had the image of that advanced romulan ship in my mind, so when i saw how they remade it for the game im just thinking "Omg thats really really good".  the one thing is i think they made it so big that the ship AI actually has trouble controlling it because it was a little easy to blow it up with the Enterprise-E and the other 2 ships that are on your side fed5.

Well i think ive given you people the big picture of what the Ultimate Universe does.  If u liked what u read go and download it, play it drool over it, and keep an eye out for patches and new releases of the mod because as ill say again only the Demo is out right now, but its still a real awesome demo nk4.

Ill be sure to come back and add information as it becomes available
