What if you got a Cloaking Device? What would happen? Treaty of Algeron? Who knows?

i think cloaking devices would add a brilliant aspect to the game. it would be the advantage of going a non federation race (if there are any at launch). But there would need to be some major disadvantages to having one, otherwise it may be too big an advantage.
Honestly, my Pagh is massive.

well if you are talking about a rogue faction like the orion pirate it might be cool. There could be cases like the defiant and the federation might have become allies with the Romulans by STO therefore nullifying the treay of Algeron.

in my opinion a conplete cloak would be too big of an advantage, a semi-cloak or some way of detecting a cloaked ship would balence things out

example using phasers:  :stun: vs  :stun:, one phaser fires and barely misses the other  :stun:, whick cloaks, and switches to  :vaporize: without the other  :stun: knowing, it deacloacks, and  :vaporize: fires, instant win for  :vaporize:

How about this.  Ships with cloaks need to fully decloak before shields and weapons come online thus giving the ship a momentary vulnerability.  As soon as the ship decloaks it appears on the sensors on the other ship, depending on sensor level.  Higher the level the quicker the ship shows on sensors and lets say at a certain level you can intermittently detect cloak ships not long though.

The cloak ship still has the element of surprise on their hands and in the hands of a skilled player they can position their ship ships so it won't be with in the weapons arch of the other ship.  So it will take skill.

When the ship cloaks though, it will still be visible until it fully cloaks, shields and weapons also come down as soon as it starts to cloak.  So skill will have to come into play here too.  Start the cloak too soon and you are doomed.

completely agree with curtst. That model has worked in several trek games (Armada series, SFC series, Bridge Commander, Legacy) before and would work well with STO.
