Some awards from STOnet we have not copied over yet. Examples, IRC related ones, Because they would be redundant in that we dont have an IRC.

We are considering wether to implement these ones.

The Devels advocate award was an impossable award to get, its purpose was to try and get people to think out of the box at possable alternate viewpoints to spark further conversations, but due to the way you'd have to structure your argument in that you'd have to totally take the side of that viewpoint, it was impossable to achieve as it wouldappear that that 'was' your viewpoint, if you see what i mean? :-)

I thought the Devil's Advocate award was to go to the person who had the least popular opinion, thus causing the biggest uproar. There were plenty of people I could think of that could have earned this award, such as Falin :)

(Don't feel bad Falin, my stance on canon nearly got me tarred and feathered)

 What Jons' intention was, I believe;

Devil's Advocate:

From Latin advocatus diaboli, “devil’s advocate”

#1 - (idiomatic) One who debates from a view which they may not actually hold, usually to determine its validity, or simply for the sake of argument.

Hmm..if that was the case, i'd have the devils advocate award like 10 times.

I was meaning in know i had the "starship Name submited" award, you know the one you got when you submited a name to the 10k database we had.

Ah...you meant the SNDB banner. A lot of people had that one. Mind you, I only submitted about 6 or 7 names! :)

We are still working out the fine details of what  awards we will implement here.

At the moment, we dont have, for example, an IRC or an SNDB, so there is really no point in having these awards here. We want to continue to use the awards system here as it was used on STOnet - Thus, it is pointless to have redundent awards, rather, it is better that we invent some of our own!

We could have some sort of shoutbox award for example, donator awards x 3 for people who donate various amounts,  gallery awards for people who submit X amount of images to the gallery, etc etc etc.

There are alot of possibilitys here for us to invent new awards.

Any chance we could also retain our STO.net rank?  I was a Lieutenant Commander with only around 45 posts left to make Commander.  :O

Hey, gang! Just checking in for a bit.

#1 - (idiomatic) One who debates from a view which they may not actually hold, usually to determine its validity, or simply for the sake of argument.

Hmm. I felt like I usually tried to consider how others might regard some of my crazy ideas, since if I could guess the most common objections I could improve the ideas. I always hoped I might nail that particular award, but if it was really intended to be impossible to earn then I'm glad to finally learn that! Now I don't have to endure the remainder of my life thinking, "Oh, if only...." :)

As for awards, I can't help myself; I wouldn't mind having mine back again. /blush They were:

Excellent Post Award #3
Mark of Creativity #3
Mark of Clarity
SNDB Contribution Commendation
Promising New User

I wouldn't mind getting the old Lt. Cmdr. rank back again, either, but I see there's an existing ranking system here, so no worries.

You know what I mind about STOnet shutting down? (Other than the content and people, of course.) I was actually looking forward to my one-year anniversary of signing up there -- it would have come in mid-April.

Dang.

Ah, well. Things change, and we change with them.

P.S. Google Search is wonderful; if you search for an old post and can't link to the original at STOnet, look for the "Cached" link for that hit. For example, page 2 of the thread about Atwell's LCARS GUI is cached at http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:Is-D8ymyJrMJ:www.startrek-online.net/messageboard/showthread.php%3Fp%3D166644+Atwell+LCARS+GUI&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=4&gl=us .
