The "OFFICIAL" Cryptic STO Speculation Thread! - Now in Color!

Ok, so for anyone who was around for the big unveiling last night, I'm interested in what some of the first impressions were, and based on what information we have from the STO site, speculation on what direction Cryptic is headed with STO.

To start off, some things that first came to mind for me last night:

1. Fancy graphics, but not sure if the gameplay will back them up.

2. Everyone has a ship? Please don't let that be true!

3. YEAH! Klingons! But since they are a faction, does that mean the Khitomer Accords have been disolved?

4. Consoles and PCs? Please don't let this be a hack and slash like WoW, Age of Conan, LOTRO, etc.

REMEMBER, THIS IS JUST SPECULATION AT THIS POINT!

i already assumed everyone would have their own ship, and im happy that is so.

however: that does not mean that you cannot have friends aboard to help out. it is done so because you need to understand that not everyone wants to group 100% of their time. i know i dont. so being able to take my Akira out solo is fine by me.

graphics: I agree with RR on the graphics. at first i was like "oooooo" but now i just want to see them in action with the computer's specs.

consoles: keep them seperate from the PC world. AFAIK, consoles do not have keyboards that you do not have to buy. personally, i would hate to have to buy the keyboard attachment to play a game i was already paying a monthly fee for.

Klingons: well, it sounds good, but if you look at the background picture on the screenshot page, you will see a Klingon captain commanding starfleet officers onboard a klingon ship. sounds like klingons will have their own uniforms, but will be part of the Federation.

uniforms: they look like PE's version of them, so im happy about that.

timeframe: sounds like its post nemsis. cool. i wouldnt be surprised if there is some type of B4 quest or something involving data...

all in all, it comes down to the gameplay video we will be getting in 9ish days. im sure most of our questions will be answered during the vegas con (thanks to kinn and lotus fleet command)

Graphics, im disappointed, everything looks like cartoony SPORE graphics YUCK!

  I'm not all that excited about the idea that it will be console supported myself but we will have to wait and see what the controls will be like .

  A question I have about everyone having there own ship to command is what ship? will we have a choice? how will ships be chosen? will we have a choice of a set few and depending on how successfully we do will unlock access to other ship classes?

  I would prefer we work our way to a command position IMO. I feel that once you've attained that center seat, you've then certainly EARNED that position and no one can say otherwise. I would be more likely to respect a player that did so than someone who simply started there.

  It's odd that they would pick the klingons as a potentail antagonist first, when they are considered allies to the federation, it would make far more sense to chose the romulans as a starting antagonist faction or the breen, but perhaps we are just misinterpreting what is essentially very little information at this point.

  As for the graphics? well again I'll wait and see, tho I think it will be rather toonish, much like champions will be. I wont like that very much at all, but if there is a sound control system and and lots to do via minigames and such, I guess I can live with it.

this is all speculation, of course. and im not really sure how happy i am to have players own a bigger ship like the soverign. I feel like that type of ship should be something that only NPCs control, (eg have some away missions on board them) or something Fleets can buy (somehow)

I wanna see the players actually EARN their right to captain a starship. Not given out to any kid with a watergun and 15 bucks in their pocket.
