Keeping Old Ships - Do you object to this system?
« on: 13 January 2009 11:18 AM »
In the latest Ask Cryptic, it was mentioned that ship captains would be able to store old ships and switch back to them when needed.

Do you object to this system?  Tell us why you do or don't....

I do object to this system.  To hear my full views, listen to Episode 58 of Hailing Frequency when its released later on today....but....

I do not think you should be able to keep old ships or have access to old ships in any circumstances. If you get into a situation for example, where you do a mission that requires another ship, a smaller ship, a more maneuverable ship, then you should team up with any other folks in the area to help you.

If you are in a fleet, then you request that a Fleet Member come and help you complete the mission.

If you are a Fleet Captain - I think you should allowed to issue orders to other ships in your fleet, either NPC controlled ships or Human Controlled ships, but no direct control.

Everyone else?

although i love this feature in Eve (it makes sense there, players or corporations actually own the ship), it makes no sense in a Universe that you are part of a military orginization. One captain should be one ship.

when i siad take the best parts of even and enhance them, this is not one of them i meant.I just can't see this as part of the whole "utopian" society aspect. I can hear it now "sure admirial, I'll go handle that borg cube, let me first warp across the federation to pick up my uber enhaced Galaxy class instead of tise freedom class i'm scouting in"

they're going so far from Star Trek, they need to change the name now.

I have to agree.
It does not feel very Starfleet.

It makes sense if you were a faction or militia.

I agree with everything said in the podcast on 'cooperation'

 One Captain...One Ship!
This sounds like jumping off your carrier and boarding a submarine to attack an opposition. It just isn't done that way.
I agree that EVE's system is useful, in the Corporation mindset, but as has been mentioned, both above and in the podcast, this just isn't done in Star Trek.
As long as I can transfer technology up-grade's into my next "tier" level ship, I see no practical use for keeping your old, lower-tiered ship.

Every time I see this topic is just annoys me to hell and back again.  I really hope they go for this one ship one captain system because I think this one point is going to decide wether or not I like this game.

I could see you going back to a previous ship if you lost the current one you're using.

I don't know.  If, in the context of the new "galaxy at war," thing, they can explain to me why I can call upon previous ships...then I may b be Ok with it.  We'll see.

One captain one ship period, you leave a ship for another one your stuck with it as it should be.  Like that new ship but want to try something else out? make another character! I mean what the hell are those other character slots for ya think, huh?

Why not use them to create your own fleet? Surely with the different servers we could have fleet branches all over the place. Like a guild, you could recruit people into your 'fleet', assign them to ships, teach them about their strengths & weaknesses (the ships AND the players), and have some cool fleet vs. fleet throwdowns. Hell, even have some 'wargames' among aligned fleets (just don't have an M-5 around ;))

We should be able to keep our 'old' ships. We upgraded them, we customized them, we blew them up spectacularly time and time again. They should be ours to do with as we please. Besides, how am I going to become Emperor Khyron, Master of the Universe?

Oh, and don't call me Shirley.

(First one to get that joke gets an official 'attaboy' from Gamma Fleet!!)  =)
