Unless you are not part of a guild/Fleet already, I could see this making sense I suppose. But in this game, I plan on hanging out with my  STOFleet Command mates, and pwning some Klingon Faction  :startrek049: behinds! There are plenty of Fleets registered on the official site as of now...so all this talk of keeping old ships would only make sense to me if they were Fleet owned and made available to new members that join your existing fleet.

This is really no different than WoW with it's Pets/Mounts system. You get a new mount, you don't automatically lose the old one, and can break it out at anytime. There are uses for that, such as running with lower level players. If you have an epic mount, and they have a regular mount, it is a courtesy for the epic mount owner to break out their slower mount so that you can ride side by side.

I had a thought on this topic.  I'm not sure how the game is going to handle "ship death" but I'm sure there will be some kind of penalty, say your ship has to spen so much time in a space-dock repairing.  Maybe you could speed up the repair by spending money or something, but the alternative could be to take out your old ship and use it while your damaged ship finishes its repairs.

This sounds way too much PotBS system.

But unless you completely loose your ship in PvP, what would be the reason of having more than one ship?

If I get a tiny one and I don't like it, I'll upgrade.  But I can't see any reason to go back to that smaller one I had.

Yes Pirates of the Burning Sea.

In essence you had a starter ship.  If it was destroyed in a sea battle .. well you were screwed unless you had another half decent ship in your dock (or back to a not so good starter-like ship)  Of course loose the ship and you lost everything in your hold, enchancements .. the works [note: this was how it was when I left about 5 months inot the live game]

So unless STO is going to be like that in a PvP aspect, I can't see the reason of owning more than one ship.

Curious...if we were able to keep older ships, while upgrading to newer ones, would our older ships then be available to use with other characters that we make?
