Definitely a great and very informative article though, I'm so pumped to give that mission (or some variant thereof) a go!

Does it come as a surprise to know the Marketing Director was a Laura Croft marketing director for many years?

See any similarities?

"There is no science or space realism in Trek!"
"Yeah! But look at those headlamps!"

So I predict bust sizes will start getting bigger and bigger in STO over the next couple of years.

Hmmm.

That might be a parameter that the player can change in the "Character Creation" phase.

Acidrain, well done and excellent find. You do us proud, General.

Oh, come on!  Not that I don't appreciate cleavage as much as the next guy, but this is ridiculous.  If there was any MMO that shouldn't need to emphasize "boobz!", it would be this one.  Does Cryptic really need to stoop this low??

Honestly, I suddenly feel much less desire to get this game.  I'm f****** insulted by this.

Has it finished yet? Do you have a link?

And yeah, I have to agree with Martok here. I'm feeling a little insulted.

*waits for Falin to explode*

Hmmm, cleavage...on multible species, no less.
Fascinating.
Yeah, I agree that this sort of marketing is degrading. I mean, come on, they are obviously aiming at the young adult/adolescent male demographic...but is that demographic group the majority of MMO gamers?
Perhaps that may be true, but why use male-specific sexual overtones instead of across-the-board Star Trek Fan appeal in their marketing?
It leads one to ponder...

To those holier-than thou Star Trek fans that turn up their collective noses to those pictures, I present the following rebuttal:

She proves there is a God. That's good enough for me. ;)

I agree with your position, to a certain degree their is allot of discrimination when it comes to woman players on the outside on an multiple of levels, for example iam an huge FPS player and my website has been pushing many of the developers to add woman playable characters, why? Because their is an allot of woman players in FPS, the companies have excluded because of the way most militarizes around the world don't allow woman in direct combat roles, however they are excluding an untapped area, when it is evident that their is allot of woman that play different games that don't give them the ability to play as an woman character.

@Jatal Khyron:  What's ironic about that is Jeri Ryan honestly never held any sex appeal for me, and is therefore not that great an example IMO.  Seven was my favorite character on Voyager (in fact, she was maybe the only one I actually liked), but my enjoyment was derived from watching her grow & develop into her humanity....and NOT because she had a good body and wore those form-fitting "uniforms".

Gah.  It just bothers me that a game based on a franchise which has long held equality as one of its most important precepts seems to be going this route of shamelessly appealing to the lowest common denominator.

(Also, as others here have pointed out, at the very least the female fans should get some eye candy too.  Where are the big, strapping men with tight-fitting uniforms showing off their upper-body musculature and cod-pieces emphasizing the bulges in their pants?  If Cryptic is going to do this kind of ironic -- if not outright hypocritical -- base marketing, then at least they should be equal-opportunity about it!)

Well, that's more a matter of opinion for you I think. What she is and brought to the table cannot be denied. Just because you didn't prefer her, that does not make it a bad example. =)

Gotta call shenanigans on this one. Equality I get, but do you remember how short the skirts were in the Original Series? The green slave girls? The revealing alien outfits? Sex sold back in '66 too, ya know.

Where are the big, strapping men with tight-fitting uniforms showing off their upper-body musculature and cod-pieces emphasizing the bulges in their pants?

     Two words: Captain Kirk!

The bottom line here is that this type of thing is HARDLY new to Star Trek. Trying to bury your head in the sand and pretend that STO is 'better than that' is just wishful thinking. Now don't get me wrong, I don't condone it, but I do understand it. As far as it bringing in the lowest common denominator, it strikes me that while it may bring them in, they probably wouldn't stay, seeing as how they would have to use the head on their shoulders instead. ;)
