Star Trek Parsippany Convention

The first day of the convention was actually very pleasant. This is my first Creation convention in about 15 years. I remember the first day being jam packed and difficult to navigate. Today, there was a constant inflow of people coming in at a nice casual rate. Stars would be walking the lobby where they  would stop and talk to fans. I have never experienced that at a Creation con, only at a fan con. Feek told me he got to talk to William Shatner before I arrived.

Just after Feek and I had spoken I ran into Grace Lee Whitney. She told of why she left Star Trek after the first year and of her battle with Alcoholism. She told of her sex addiction and how she has turned her life around. I found her candidness to be refreshing. She is now very involved with AA and helps people around the country.

The show room was very relaxed compared to the NY conventions years ago. I found the set up in the Hilton to be a refreshing change compared to years ago. I was able to move around and get pictures at ease. My only regret is that I used the telephoto lens with natural light. I should have chanced getting closer with a flash.

I found the first day of this convention to be a wonderful event for the fans.

I spoke again with Grace Lee Whitney. Friday she had explained how she turned down a sexual advance that got her booted from the show. Even today she says she should have given in so she could have stayed on the show.

I then asked her, "If you did give in, would you be here today"?

She said, "Probably not".

She went on to explain the controversy in her decision at the time and how she didnt know what was right at the time. She said it took 80 years for her to get to this point where she knows it was wrong.

She explained the book would talk more about it and I then purchased her hard cover book. I look forward to reading it.
