« on: 06 March 2008 08:30 PM »
This is one, of many to come, class discussions.
We will here discuss the features and functions of these classes.
When i say average, good, bad, very good, above average etc etc. I mean in comparison to rest of the fleet

                                              Galaxy class

Basic info:
Crew compliment: Approx 1000. enlisted and civilian.
Large scientific facilities.
Enterprise-D was once flagship.

Tactical info
12 phaser banks. Good destructive force.
1 phaser battery.
270 torpedoes standard.
Above average accuracy
Good Shields.
Separatable saucer and stardrive.
Main, and battle bridge.

Propulsion
Top speed warp 9.8 (kind of slow)
Lower than average maneuverability

Role
Dreadnought
Good combat capabilities, and good as exploratory vessel.
Can act as transport vessel.

Most basic info, when ppl post more, i will update. I know alot more than that but now i gotta go sleep. Pictures are allowed, if they are good, i shall update.

The USS Enterprise-E had the role of flagship, that could be added.

The Galaxy class has the main bridge and the battle bridge.

She has lower maneuverability then most ships.

The thing that stands out with me is that it always seemed the Big D could take much more of a pounding than say Voyager. So I guess good structural integrity, good shielding and heavy duty construction.

Oh, and has AT LEAST 3 transporter rooms.

I would also venture to say that it was probably very easy to mass produce considering it have a very common set of Nacelles, and Saucer section. Both of which where seen on other Classes of Star ships built around the same time as the Galaxy.

We also know that it did have common areas such as Clothing Stores, Barber Shops, Schools, and Various other specialty labs that where not commonly present on other ship classes

Large cargo capability (frieght as well as personnel), Large shuttle compliment (if the Fed develops fighters, Galaxy would be good carrier platform)

I found an interesting little factoid on the Memory Alpha wiki site.  A comparison of the Galaxy and Constitution class ships showed that the Galaxy Class Enterprise had 25 times greater internal volume than the Constitution class.  A reference was made somewhere referring to her (the Galaxy class) having eight times more volume was probably speaking about habitable spaces, but still its a small wow moment when I think about it.
