What is the true meaning of christmas these days folks? Is it a time of coming together with your family and giving meaningful gifts to those that you love, or, is it a chance for huge corporations to capitalize on what once was a meaningful time of the year.

A couple of days ago, the place where i work asked me to put up a huge honkin 13ft xmas tree, which in itself was a task and a half.

I protested because in my opinion, November 13th was far too early to be putting up christmas trees - and do you know what i was told - "Putting People in the Christmas Spirit makes them spend more money"

I was gobsmacked.......In one foul sentance a person had managed to take something as wonderful as christmas and turn it into something dark and evil.

After a lengthy argument with the managment, i gave in and set about putting up this huge over the top christmas tree complete with presents underneath.

Low and behold, overall sales for the store went up over the next few days.

Over the last few days, i have seen people coming in buying hugely expensive gifts for their loved ones, sometimes spending well over $2000......Since when do you need to spend so much on such expensive gifts for Christmas....afterall its supposed to be a time of togetherness and love......"My Son Wants this For Christmans, My Daughter Really wants That for Christmas"

Since when has christmas been about demanding things for Christmas....isnt it a time of giving?

So today, the store started pumping christmas music over the store sound system....again, im in the managers office saying its too darn early to be playing christmas music...and again...."Putting People in the Christmas Spirit makes them spend more money"

I gave up right there and then.

So the question i ask folks, does the true meaning of christmas still exist? Or has it become about corporations capitalizing and exploiting christmas so they make more MONEY.

Is christmas still something wonderful? Or has it been turned into something Dark and Evil by corporations who want to make rich people richer and poor people poorer?

I really dont know what to think anymore.

well i just registered to tell you this mate....

Christmas is what you make it to be, like any other special time out there.
But i would also state that most people more or less rush through the cristmas time and think of it as a very hard time for them.
And more people see it like the more i spend on you the more i like you, witch is totally bullocks. that why i every year dont tell what i would really want, instead i say nothing and leave it up the thier imagination to find somthing for me, and i also go out and find somthing that aint on the wishing list, trying to find somthing that will have thier thoughts glide by my image every time they look at what i gave them. btw i live in Denmark.

dont know if that help you mate.

Wow Bin, I've never celebrated someone's breath before, except in those cases in which I was able to get away from it!   ;D

I don't celebrate christmas; it's just another day to me, though I think it's great if friends and/or family can come together to spend some quality time and share some love, regardless of the occasion.
