Hailing Frequency #58 | STGN, STO Updates and More!
« on: 10 January 2009 02:03 PM »

Hey Folks,

Here is Episode 58 of Hailing Frequency which was broadcast live on Saturday January 10th 2009.

In our first show of 2009 we discuss in detail the multiple updates that have been posted on the Star Trek Online Website since our Christmas show.

We gauge the communities opinions on the topics from the updates which include the ship specs in the new ship of line updates, owning multiple ships and ship physics from the new Ask Cryptic Update and we discuss the new screenshots in detail and analyze how the graphics have improved since the first batch of screenshots and hopefully how they will continue to improve.

We also talk about what might happen to the Star Trek Gaming License once Bethesda's tenure with it expires in 2010/2011 and we check out the Interplay Classic "Starfleet Academy" to see if it still holds up on today's computers.

Would you like to participate in the show?

Hailing Frequency is, and has always been a community podcast. That means that if you, as a community member, would like to participate in the show, all you have to do is record something and send it in too zach@hailingfrequency.co.uk

Perhaps you have a view about something we have said in the show, or perhaps you would like to record a report about something, maybe you have an idea for an entirely new segment? Whatever you want to do, just drop us an e-mail and we will work with you to develop your ideas.

You can also now appear LIVE on any of our live shows by adding hailing.frequency to your skype account during a live show event and asking to come on the air.

Advertising

If you have a Star Trek website that you would like to advertise in the show, all you have to do is record a 30 or 60 second long advert and send it in to us. Don't know what to do or say? No problem, just drop us an e-mail and we will work with you to develop an advert! zach@hailingfrequency.co.uk

Donations

Hailing Frequency is always in need of donations to help cover server costs and other expenses. Did you know that we currently use over 2000gb of Bandwidth Per Month?  All of this bandwidth and server power costs money - so even if you can only spare a dollar - It will help!

I'm posting this while listening, so this may be discussed later.

I just got past the part where you guys discuss Hyper-impulse drive. I dived (dove?) into memory-alpha and typed it in which came up with:
http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Hyper-impulse_drive
Quote
The hyper-impulse drive was an extension of the impulse drive technology. It presumably allowed for traveling at faster speeds or accelerating faster while remaining below the speed of light. The timeship Aeon was equipped with this drive mechanism, which Henry Starling used when he left Earth in preparation for his trip through time. (VOY: "Future's End, Part II")

Yay!  I have finally joined the 21st century and now own a Zune mp3 player on which I can download and listen to HF while at work.  Well, I can download the cast at home then listen at work.  Just caught up on #57 and now have to get home and check out #58.

As always team, great job.  I've been away too long and have a lot of catching up to do on all things Trek gaming.

/cheers

By the way what does Reputation Power mean?  I seem to have a lot of that.  ;)

Thats either a major system glitch, or it has something to do with the fact that you have been a forum member since 2005/2006

don't buy it and send a clear message that we will no longer sheeply buy subpar games. same can be said about seeing the new movie, but alas the sheep will keep letting them make horrid things cause they fear that if they don't, there will be no more trek, i hate stupid illogical logic.

the message that would be sent buy simply not buying the game would be that Star Trek is a lost franchise and is no longer viable for profit.

by purchasing STO fans are put into a unique position unlike stand alone games that allows us to play the game and then voice real suggestions based on game play that allows us to enjoy new content over the years...

in this case Inaction will not benefit the whole but rather the action of purchasing STO will give you voice to demand change and content that you believe should be in STO....

and there's that bad logic again.

sorry we will never force them to change by giving them money and then demanding they change. they already have your money, they don't care after that. you must send a clear message that you will not give them money if they are making something that is not trek and calling it trek, otherwise thay will cntinue to make 'censored' and pass it off as trek.

sorry this is the time that inaction is best for trek, it probably needs a rest then can come back in a glorious reincarnation that is respectful and honorful, not just a "quick buck" bastardized event.
