Excalibur Update: The Nova Class
« on: 09 December 2008 12:44 PM »

The 10,629 polygon Nova Class featured in Excalibur is a collaboration of work between DaAan and Newman, and it really looks stunning in the new Engine.

The Nova is a Federation starship designed for short-term planetary research missions. It was placed in service starting in the mid-to-late 24th century, and is one of Starfleet's most advanced scientific vessels, emerging as a replacement for its predecessor, the Oberth class. Designed as a science and scout vessel, the Nova is used for short-term planetary research and analysis after a region had been surveyed by larger vessels. It is not designed for long-range tactical missions.

Originally the Nova was created with the general asthetics of the Intrepid class in mind; it's saucer section is similar to the Intrepid with a curved triangular design, and it only features one impulse drive, unlike most other starships. The Nova also has the ability to land on the surface of a planet or similar celestial body, also similar to the Intrepid class.
