April 4th - Excalibur Update, The Klingon Empire
« on: 07 April 2009 01:10 PM »
Another update has been posted by the Excalibur team over at www.stexcalibur.com which this time gives us a look at some of the awesome Klingon Ships that have been created.

We see both the Negh'var and Vorcha in this update so without further delay, here they are:

Negh'var Class

The Negh’var was the largest warship known to be in service within the Imperial Klingon Defense Forces. These ships were seen on more than one occasion, such as Martok’s flagship during the Klingon invasion of the Cardassian Union and subsequently the Dominion War, as well as in the mirror-universe, as the Regent’s flagship. Modified versions of the Negh’var were seen in the final episode of TNG, “All Good Things”, attacking the medical ship USS Pasteur, as well as the variant seen in the final episode of Voyager, “Endgame”.

You will find three different variants featured in the show: the normal Negh’var seen in DS9, the variant warship seen in TNG’s “All Good Things” episode, and the variant seen in “Endgame”. These models are based on high poly CG models from Exe, ranging from 8000 to 9000 polies, they also benefit from a single 2048x2048 texture which gives clear details while saving resources. Credit to Exe for the models and Luiz for the textures.

Vorcha Class

By the time of Excalibur the Vorcha has become a refined and dependable part of the Klingon fleet, and as the now aging Bird of Preys are slowly decommisioned the Vorcha class has taken up the slack. The main strength of the Vorcha design is its modular capabilities, making it useful in any situation similar to the Nebula class of starfleet, these ships can be set up with three main pods.  The standard pod is used for for standard missions including patrols and convoy duty, while the assault pod is designed for troop and fighter carrying during large scale assault, finally the ECM pod carries enhanced scanning capabilities and communication jamming. To further enhance the selection of vessels we have developed three main texture sets for these ships, each from a different period in canon history, in total this gives us 9 "standard" vorcha variants.

Aside from these standard variants we also have the Vorcha X, a completely new design which entails many characteristics similar to the Neghvar class in design. This includes 2 huge disruptor cannons on its ventral side for added offensive power, a style which is typically Klingon in nature.

The model itself was the product of work from ExeDE (modeller) and Legacy (textures) with the standard Vorcha Class weighing in at 8500 polies, while the Vorcha X (variant) comes in at 10k polies; further resource saving is managed with shared textures between the Assault, ECM and standard variants, meaning that while a whole fleet of Vorcha vessels may be on screen only a handful of textures need to be loaded for them.

And no comments yet?

With each new update, the Excalibur team impress me even further. I think this will be a great game when it's eventually finished.

I don't what to say yet, the ships looks nice but still don't know much on the gameplay... just watching
