What are your favorite Star Trek quotes? I really like quotes that are either sentimental or highlight paradoxes.

"Death to the Opposition"- Worf in "Take Me Out to the Holosuite"

It is simple and catchy. Its in many peoples' lists of top Worf quotes.

"Here's to manufactured victory!"- The Niners in the same episode
Time is the fire in which we burn. -Gene Roddenberry

There's so many to choose from... I'll stick to these ones for now, though, I think :)

"I'm not Picard."
    - Sisko, "Q-Less" (I think it's the way he says it that muses me most about this one...)

"Photon torpedo. Isn't that the universal greeting when communications are down?"
"I think it's the universal greeting when you don't like someone."
    - Riker and La Forge, "Insurrection"

"Truth is an excuse for lack of imagination." -Garak

"Then the Andorian said: `This is not my antenna'." -Quark

"Timeline? This is no time to talk about time. We don't have the time!...what was I saying?" -Troi (drunk)

"Klingons don't bathe..." -Worf

The words of Garak are priceless. He openly questioned Federation morality. He did it with courage and never betrayed his own feelings. This is one from the Cardassian I get everytime I take that quiz.

O'Brien: "We'll all be burning the midnight oil on this one."
Data: "That would be inadvisable."
O'Brien: "Excuse me?"
Data: "If you attempt to ignite a petroleum product on this ship at 0000 hours, you will activate the fire suppression system. Which would seal off this entire compartment."

A perfect example of Data's inability to comprehend humanity's use of language. He often took things very literal.

On another topic, I think Garak was my favorite character throughout DS9. You never quite knew what to do with him. Sometimes he's just the "simple tailor". Other times, he's the spy amidst the Federation officers on the station. He certainly had a way with words.

I don't think we could point to one quote as the 'best', that's a question of personal preference. Having said that, these are my favorites....

"I see you've noticed the ears, well that's because...when he was a child, he got his head caught in a mechanical....rice picker."
Kirk to 1930's cop - ST:TOS "City on the Edge of Forever"   (condensed)

"HARCOURT! Harcourt Fenton Mudd, what have you been up to?"
     Stella Mudd - ST:TOS "I, Mudd"

"Well, whatdya know? I finally got the last word!"
Dr. McCoy - ST:TOS "Journey to Babel"

Gul Dukat: "Of course I hated them! I hated everything about them! Their superstitions and their cries for sympathy, their treachery and their lies, their smug superiority and their stiff-necked obstinacy, their earrings, and their broken, wrinkled noses!"
Sisko: "You should have killed them all, hm?"
Gul Dukat: "Yes! Yes!! That's right, isn't it?! I knew it. I've always known it. I should've killed every last one of them! I should've turned their planet into a graveyard the likes of which the galaxy had never seen! I should've killed them all."
Sisko: "And that is why you're not an evil man."
     ST:DS9 - "Waltz"

"You wish to copulate? Very well, take off your clothes."
Seven of Nine to a flustered Harry Kim - ST:VOY "Revulsion"

"He simply could not believe his ears."
Spock  - ST:TOS "The Trouble with Tribbles"

Oh, lord.  There is no possible way I could pick out my favorite quote, or even my ten favorite quotes; there's simply too many!  Heck, half the lines from First Contact alone -- to say nothing of The Undiscovered Country -- would make my "quotable list"!

"Mr. Garak, why is it that no one has tried to kill you yet?"

"My innate charm?"

This is one painfully hard topic to respond to, oh it hurt so much, but i may try and cut it to 10 - 20 quotes, if I give it a really, really hard try:

"Do you know the one -- "All I ask is a tall ship...and a star to steer her by..." You could feel the wind at your back, about you...the sounds of the sea beneath you. And even if you take away the wind and the water, it's still the same. The ship is can feel her...and the stars are still there." Kirk in TOS: "The Ultimate Computer"

"Spock. This child is about to wipe out every living thing on Earth. Now, what do you suggest we do....spank it?" -- McCoy in Star Trek: TMP

One we all know and love -> "In any case, were I to invoke logic, logic clearly dictates that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few." -- Spock
"Or the one." -- Kirk  (Star Trek II)

"You're suffering from a Vulcan mind-meld, Doctor." -- Kirk
"That green-blooded sonofabitch. It's his revenge for all those arguments he lost." -- McCoy (Star Trek III)

"You can't appreciate Shakespeare until you've read him in the original Klingon." -- General Chang (Star Trek VI)

"Life forms.... You tiny little life forms..... You precious little life forms.... Where are you?" -- Data

"... a dream that became a reality and spread throughout the stars" -- Kirk (Whom Gods Destroy)

"Mr. Spock, the women on your planet are logical. That's the only planet in the galaxy that can make that claim." -- Kirk (Elaan of Troyius)

"I signed aboard this ship to practice medicine, not to have my atoms scattered back and forth across space by this gadget." -- McCoy (Space Seed)

One million, seven hundred seventy-one thousand, five hundred sixty-one. That's assuming one Tribble, multiplying with an average litter of ten, producing a new generation every twelve hours over a period of three days.

In the old days, operations officers wore red, command officers wore gold. - And women wore less. - I think I'm going to like history.

OK enough for one post!

# "Well Bones, do the new medical facilities meet with your approval?" -- Kirk

    * "They do not. It's like working in a damn computer center" -- McCoy (Star Trek: TMP)

# "Spock, will you please sit down!" -- Kirk (Star Trek: TMP)

# "Just a moment, Captain, sir. I'll explain what happened. Your revered Admiral Nogura invoked a little known, seldom used, reserve activation clause. In simpler language, Captain, they drafted me!" -- McCoy (Star Trek: TMP)

# "Your child is having a tantrum, Mr. Spock." -- McCoy (Star Trek: TMP)

# "Spock, you haven't changed a bit. You're just as warm and friendly as ever." -- McCoy

    * "Nor have you, Doctor, as your continued predilection for irrelevancy demonstrates." -- Spock (Star Trek: TMP)

# "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times... Message Spock?" -- Kirk

    * "None that I am concious of... except, of course, Happy Birthday. Surely the best of times" -- Spock (Star Trek II)

# "Humour. It is a difficult concept" -- Saavik (Star Trek II)

# "Who's been holding up the damn elevator?" -- McCoy (Star Trek II)

# "It has always been easier to destroy that to create" -- Spock

    * "Not anymore! Now we can do both at the same time. According to myth, the Earth was created in six days. Now watch out! Here comes Genesis, we'll do it for ya in six minutes." -- McCoy, in Kirk's ready room, after viewing the Project Genesis film (Star Trek II)

# "Where are we going?" -- McCoy

    * "Where they went." -- Kirk
    * "What if they went nowhere?" -- McCoy
    * "Then this will be your big chance to get away from it all." -- Kirk, directing the search party to beam to the last coordinates of the transporter room in the deserted science lab (Star Trek II)
